Available Sunday, 7/25, is GM&O Northern Lines V 1.75.This is a cumulative, full-version release of the route which supercedes all previous versions, patches, and upgrades. No activities are included in this release however an updated activity pack will follow in a couple of days. All previous versions of the route have been withdrawn and will no longer be supported! Please see the multi-player forum for information about an upcoming MP session using this route. What's new in 1.75?* Air Line (Iles to Murrayville) is essentially finished (scenery-wise). * Roodhouse is partially finished.* Minor scenery and fixes...The re-pack is a set of 11 spanned-zip files containing over 400 MB. Download GMONL175.ZIP and the spanned set GMONL175.z01 through .z10. Place all files in the same folder then unzip ONLY the GMONL175.ZIP file. All other archives are called up by this single file. See the post in the Train Simulator forum for help with unzipping spanned zip sets!WARNING TO I.E. USERS: Be certain that the spanned files (.z01 - .z10) get saved without an extra ".zip" added to the filename! If you have difficulties unzipping this is likely the problem. Simply rename the files and eliminate the extra ".zip" and all will be well.JBD

RE: Re-packaged GM&O now uploaded...

The yellowbuffer.ace is a known bug with RouteRiter. It is something that I've battled all along. I'll make a note to myself for version 2.0 to make sure this file IS in the textures folder (I'll have to MANUALLY put it back in place). One other error reported by private email was a missing environment texture called PlanetaryCloudAppearanceTrans.ace. This file should be part of Kosmos or may be one of the Kosmos add-on environments available in the file library. As always, simply copy over yellowbuffer.ace from any of the default route and all shall be made whole. The problem is that I use a non-default A1USBuffer (Hobart's RRSTUFF) that seems to cause this problem.BTW: I don't post screenshots. I've got better things to do with my Sim-Time (like the complete re-laying of WR Interlocking just completed thanks to a newly found set of track charts!!!). I'm also re-laying the Merchants Bridge Route between the Arch and West Approach (same sitch, newly-found track charts)....I did a LOT of work in Granite City last night, adding the A.O.Smith yard (ITC/NW) and some additional TRRA trackage north of WR (ex. GC&MBL). WR wasn't too awfully hard to modify and the addition of some new double- and single-slips is really neat!I have to admit I LOVE doing the historical research part of route-building. It's such a rewarding feeling to find that one photo or magazine that gives exactly the information I've sought. Found two back-issues of TRRA Historical Society at a hobby shop in Springfield, Mo. last Friday (got them for $10 for the pair!). One has an extensive description of operations on the Merchants Bridge route and the towers on TRRA, the other is all L&N which will enhance things at Bridge Junction and Relay Depot!!! Poking around the old right-of-ways is fun as well, I always seems to find something that gives me one of those "AHA!" moments and I really get a kick out of this!JBD

RE: Re-packaged GM&O now uploaded...

Hey JimI took the opportunity to load your route this evening and after replacing a truncated zip archive file which I guess got botched during the download it installed fine. The only problem I had was a cryptic message about being unable to save or load the explore activity file - after a bit of puzzlement I checked out the ACTIVITIES folder which was not extant. I recalled some time back that an empty activities folder was a requirement for running in explore mode - apparently the sim creates a dummy activity and read that in when you run explore mode. Anyway anyone having this problem should create an empty "ACTIVITIES" folder in the GMONEW route folder. Oddly I did not see the yellowbuffer.ace problem and I apparently got the Kosmos thing set up correctly which was a relief. I made a successful test run with my speeder so all looks good. So now I'm off to start downloading the equipment for your new activity pack - should be running trains by the weekend. Looks pretty good so far - keep up the good work.Be Seeing you.
Michael

RE: Re-packaged GM&O now uploaded...

Download and install the Activity Pack that hit the library today. That should create the Activity directory when unzipped into the route. All please note that the old activities will create problems and you should delete all and install the new activity pack for 1.75.JBD

? ?Is it correct that this Download is > 400 MB ? ? ? ?FOUR HUNDRED MEGABYTES ? Takes 5+ HOURS, even with a decent 512 DSL.
56 kbps modemusers have no chance at all...Or did I misread ?
Can't believe that all ad-hoc Route_Riter features were applied to get it leaner.Well, if so it really is, will wait for more compact Repack, and run other (excellent) freeware stuff in expectation...

RE: Re-packaged GM&O now uploaded...

You have to remember that this route covers approximately 800 track miles.... It's GOING to be big. It's been fully compacted with RouteRiter (with the exception of compressing world files). If you can come up with a better way to get it even smaller I'm all for it!!!JBD

Sure.
Just watching my download progress now, drinking tea...
4 files already safe, rest gets in at slow pace. Could take a while. Will revert, Jim !BTW, compressing *.W files will make a minor difference (ZIPPED), if any, while possibly disturbing Radeon grafic card users. Love and Peace

OK, got it...What could be done to reduce size:*Delete unnecessary subfolders : ENVArchives, Oldenv, modshapes, TEXTURES\TRACKS. This will save around 10 MB
*Compress all shapes
*Delete any .bak, PreScale etc.
*Delete uncalled seasonal textures, another 10 MB or more
*Compress TEXTURES with DXT1, when possible. Could save up to 50 MB.
*TILES are the heavy part (around 150 MB zipped). Restrict Quadtree to ONLY visible tiles. Hard job, I know, but only stuff within 2km of tracks is needed. Potential for 20 MB ?? So could come down to 300 MB ? Will look closer...EDITED : just running Route_Riter.
Looks like some transfers are missing in SNOW.
So route will give errors in Winter, wintersnow, autumnsnow, springsnow.
Delete ALL snow textures & terrtex (or supply separately)!
Route will still run in summer, spring, autumn and at night !
This dirty trick saves 32 MB...Love and Peace

Must have been pulled from availability -- I just tried to start downloading and the ZIP file is unavailable and z09 wasn't there either -- so will wait to see what develops...Warren M.
