For some reason, I have been unable to use Gaetan Belanger's VIA cars (silver and blue) in any activity recently. I've used them successfully in many activities before, but out of nowhere they will not work. I did nothing to modify them. The game will load fine, it gets to the in-game activity briefing (F11) and then gives me the send / don't send error. I have had this same problem in three routes so far:Marias Pass 3.1 The New WhitefishHawk3 Bridge LineI have even tried swapping out the power, so I'm fairly sure it's the passenger cars. When I use the cars in explore mode, they work fine!I'm truly puzzled, any idea what might be wrong?Dave Reage - Beta Tester Halifax, Canada
Hmmm, long time with no answer hey? Well, I dunno the answer either, but I can speculate like crazy."When I use the cars in explore mode, they work fine!"Question is, have you tried making an activity with these cars in the player consist, with no AI traffic? Or are you talking about using these cars in an AI traffic consist? Have you tried swapping out the cars for something else in both player and AI consists, and does the activity run then? Is your number of files in the \Trains\Consists folder getting up around 600 or more?"I've used them successfully in many activities before, but out of nowhere they will not work."One of two things there, either something about the trainsets has changed, like a different physics application that alters the couplers, or possibly the SMS files if you're talking about AI traffic trains (scalabilty group 0 is used only by AI trains, the player don't use it) or the problem is in the activites and unrelated to the trainset. At least you have it narrowed down, if it works in explore mode then the problem is somewhere in the activity(s). So all I can tell you at this point is simplify the activity as much as possible by leaving out the AI traffic, add in one car at a time to the player consist. If the activity works with all the cars in the player consis,t add one AI train with one car, then two cars, etc.
Thanks for the response. I believe it has something to do with the coaches. My consist was F40PH - Baggage - Coach - Coach - Skyline - Park Car. I switched out the coaches and replaced them with other coaches and everything works fine now. I think I'll just slowly back away from the consist and be careful not to upset anything Dave Reage - Beta Tester Halifax, Canada
Kinda like nitroglycerin, hey? Once you get ANYTHING in MSTS working right you're reluctant to change it!Had something similar this morning, I've driven the entire route on the PO&N9 beta, no problems. I changed the player consist to my usual, PO&N #297 GP38, PO&N #1953 SD40-2, mixed cars and a PO&N caboose. Coming down a straight stretch of track crossing a switch I got activity ended, broken coupler, WTF? Examining the area in the RE, it's a grade change from 1.5% (0.9 degrees) to 0.7% (0.45 degrees), and I've never had any trouble before on that little grade transition.So then I looked at the caboose, which was based on the MS/TA 1.2 US2caboose:Coupling ( Type ( Automatic ) Spring ( Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 5e6N/m ) Damping ( 1e6N/m 1e6N/m ) Break ( 1.1e7N 1.1e7N ) r0 ( 20cm 30cm ) ) Velocity ( 0.1m/s ) )So I changed to what I use for all my other cars:Coupling ( Type ( Automatic ) Spring ( Stiffness ( 1.2e6N/m 4.7e6N/m ) Damping ( 1.3e6N/m/s 3.4e6N/m/s ) Break ( 5.4e7N 5.4e7N ) r0 ( 20cm 30cm ) ) Velocity ( 0.1m/s ) )And no more broken couplers.
