This route (HORGEO5.ZIP) has now been in the library for 2 days, already enjoyed 500+ Downloads.Shy author René therewith wishes to thank all those, who (even unknowingly) helped him to reach release, as a HUGE lot of knowledge was gathered from THIS very Forum.HORGEO5 features a short (20 miles), but very technical section of the Schwarzwaldbahn (Black Forest line) Offenburg-Villingen, in southern Germany.
At the time of construction (around 1870), it broke innovative ground. Very few bridges, but nearly 30% ascending tunnels and a striking track placement by Robert Gerwig, a pioneer who was also the leading designer for Sauschwänzle and the northern Saint Gotthard ramp.
The line is still busy today for hourly passenger services, a few freight shuttles, and is a popular excursion target for European railfans, in pretty attractive surroundings.René did a VERY accurate job, track is laid as close to the prototype as MSTS would possibly allow, terrain (with distant mountains) is a candy.
Compact, only 9.4 MB as a ZIP, even 8.34 MB as a RAR on the-train.de, so feel invited to enjoy, encourage and comment !Too pretty to RunOnce and discard, act writers, inspired to keep it alife with activities ? BTW, you don't need XTracks to run HORGEO, just overcaution statement when uploading...Within a few days you will get Whitefish5 extended by René, same author, same dedication !Love and Peace

A few observations on your post Oldiedaddy:There are so many routes available in both free and payware, I think people are getting somewhat picky! I already have 11 German/Austrian routes ( mostly Protrain and German Railroads), plus examples of most of the trains that have used those routes over the last 100 years! In addition, I probably have 500+ activities for them. Do I need any more?I have a lot of Canadian and US Longhaul routes, and will probably add the Cascades and Surfliner routes. The only shortage for me is UK stuff, (6 routes), but there are plenty due shortly. My MSTS folder is currently a bloated 18gigs, more Sumo than Slim.Only the fittest will survive in the future, although short specialised routes will be Ok as freeware. (you made your million yet Rich? LOL!).BTW, some sites would have more Kudos if they didn't offer rip-off routes like Scenic railways and Highspeed trains.David

Hi DTA ?
Cannot get your point.
HORGEO is FREEWARE, free, for Zilch. No Payware, no constraint.
With my post I invited the Community to have a look at René's free work. Thought/think it was/is worth it.
If folks like it, they enjoy & keep, otherwise ---> bin.You already have dozens of European routes on your HDD ? Great !
Most are GR/PT Paywares ? No question, good choice, most are excellent, if my opinion counts. So what do you mean between your lines ?
In my humble opinion, HORGEO is a candidate for survival if you sort your stuff out, but YOU definitely decide what pleases YOU.I get 'picky' myself, too.
Will not upload a mediocre piece of work to my site or train-sim nowadays. Have even trashed some payware to the odds (no names, no dispute...)Still don't understand what your concern is, if any...
Love and Peace

Thanks Michael !
Glad, that René's route pleases you.Never mind about WF4.
Whitefish 3 is a pretty nice impressing redecoration of WF2 by friend Hawk.
WF4 never left René's HDD.
WF5 will be something different, lots of relaid tracks, full implementation of USAPhotomaps, some 70 miles added, a brand new branch to Eastport up the Moyie river valley, official BNSF RoadBook speedlimits implemented, animated objects, and more...
Still no contradiction, as all those enjoy original authors permissions and support.
And after release of WF5 (now in my hands for compression/finetuning), you'll get WF6, with the Eureka Branch integrated, & more.
And possibly WF5a in between, with Hawks input.
No conflict, we work together to offer the Community the very best FREEWARE.TEAMWORK RULZLove and Peace

Those of us who have 56kb dial-up connections can appreciate a route that is less than 10MB to download. The route is very scenic and is a nice place to operate European railroad equipment. I spent several pleasant hours exploring the route last night and tonight. My congratulations, compliments and thanks to the route's creator(s).

TRAINSTORE & Hornbach -St. Georgen (Black Forest)

As the route comes with no activity, TRAINSTORE seems to consider the PATHS unnecessary (THEY ARE NOT !), and destores them.Making the Route disappear from the Route choice menu. Will without doubt do the same for any route supplied with Paths, but without activities, i.e. a lot of freeware Routes. This is a real NUISANCE, I find it destructive and irrespectful of authors works.Have informed Tony Formoso of my anger.
Hopefully it will get cured ?Love and Peace

RE: TRAINSTORE & Hornbach -St. Georgen (Black Forest)

Just to elaborate on my previous reply, I was trying to demonstrate that a lot of people have more than enough routes and activities, either freeware or payware, to keep them going for ages. A short route with no activities will not seem attractive, even if free.David

Thanks for your input, DTA.Misunderstanding cleared. Got your point better, now !Yes, definitely agree with you, activities are the necessary salt for Routes, without them their attractivity collapses shortly, you're just right.Surely, HORGEO is not the ideal playground for Acts.
Short, only 20 miles, not many sidings/yards...
This is how it is in reality !
Still, added wye and loop give a bit of breathing room.
And short timed acts (30' or so) are not wrong, either ?As stated in the Readme (did we on this Forum, hmmm possibly not ?),
originally HORGEO was not built by René for MSTS-choo-chooing, but for his pure author pleasure of building/recreating an accurate geography.
This is why he recommends to run in Key 2/3 external views, otherwise many neat features will remain undiscovered ! Still, a few convinced friends of the Route have already started writing and publishing Acts on www.the-train.de , feel welcome to visit/download.
More are expected.
In particular, backhelper tasks, as they historically existed on this steep section, until very recently with the operation of the powerfull last generation electric engines Series 103 and higher.
Will possibly select the best, adjust for lean stock, and translate texts into English.
Also, an electrified version, reflecting the present state as from 1972, might come out soon.
The line is still alife & pretty busy today, so should it be for our Hobby !Love and Peace

RE: Route Hornbach -St. Georgen (Black Forest)

I downloaded the route last night and tried to run it, and failed. Route riter came back with these errors
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\TrainSimulator\Routes\HOR_GEO-5\Textures\acleantrack1.ace is missing from this route - the route will not function without it"
Also missing were (same path as above) \Textures\Snow\acleantrack1.ace
\Textures\Snow\acleantrack2.ace
I checked the route in the download section and the were not listed in the files. Anybody know where I can get the files, or am I missing something? Hope somebody can help me out it sounds like a nice route.
Thanks
George
