Welcome to the forum. You won't get fantastic performance, but you'll definitely be able to run it well enough to have a great time. Give it a try!

As Jeff said above, welcome. Just for point of reference from the bottom side. I've developed a fairly long route, have a 'slough' of equipment, etc, all on a PIII 800 with 256mg memory, 64mg vid card with W98SE at 1024x768 running all sliders open except dynamic Shadows, 360gg of 7200rpm HD and have had very few problems. I think much of the 'speed and efficiency' in running MSTS is in how well you set your system up and keep it running clean and efficiently. At any rate, you have sufficient horsepower to enjoy, so just jump right in and ask questions if you run into problems. Most here are very willing to help with anything you might run into.RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

I have a bare bones comp-uter and it works fine on this. I get the occasional stutter but you can tweak the settings on it.

RE: Thinking about trying MS Train Simulator

I'm using a 350 MHz PII, 384 MB ram, 64 MB video ram with sliders and sounds maxed. there are some routes, activites, and pieces of rolling stock that can combine to bring the system to its knees, but there are a good many that run quite well, though it has taken a lot of patient work on my part and a lot of learning from this and other forums to get things tweaked to the point where they work well...go for it...Tim Baldwin

RE: Thinking about trying MS Train Simulator

I've got an AMD Athlon 1.67 GHz, 40 GB hard-drive, 256 MB of RAM, and an S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR video card. I get frame rates of 2-3 fps when running long, highly detailed trains on routes that are highly senicked. I rufuse to turn any sliders down and run my game at 1280x1024x32.

RE: Thinking about trying MS Train Simulator

A lot of RAM will improve performance as well as a good video card such as an Nvidea GeForce FX4 64-MB or some thing like that. With 1024 MB of RAM, you can get frame rates up to 60 FPS! As a comparison, a movie is 24 FPS (some are 30 FPS).

some cards are 3 times or more faster , and have 4 times the ram

>As a comparison, a movie is 24 FPS (some are 30 FPS). No, 30fps is strictly video frame rate.
