Pending a short beta test (I have already found one small bug) ths should be released tomorrow...Changes:
Bugs fixed for loading objects and others
Screenshot option to save as JPG
Model bounding box and Size display on Ctrl-B or Edit Menu (not the same as SD file)
Low Quality Texture display (same as MSTS) Ctrl-L or Edit Menu
Language translations corrected
If the PC is set for German, Spanish or French language, the program will look for help text files sview_de.chm, sview_es.chm or sview_fr.chm. These do not exist, but should anyone wish to write them they can be distributed seperately.

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

>Low Quality Texture display (same as MSTS) Ctrl-L or Edit Menu Excellent !
So SView 1.2 will be WYSIWYG, which should stop the overdoing with bulky textures that don't reflect properly in the Sim.
Color depth RGB 5-6-5 for opaque, 5-5-5+1 for Trans, 4-4-4+4 for Alpha, Correct ?The other announced features also sound great:
* BoundingBox visible, no need to run in MSTS !
* JPG screenshots (hmmm, format a box to 462*320 would be good to make loco.ace )
* Solved the bug of some cars showing white ? (e.g. metroliner) ?Love and Peace

New version sounds good. But is it going to fix the problem of ShapeViewer eating up memory? If one opens Sview and then opens TaskManager and looks at Processes which shows how much memory each process is using. One will see that as ShapeViewer opens another file the memory increases that it it using. And keeps on increasing with each subsequent file opened. This continues till Windows tells you that memory is critically low or the program and/or Windows becomes unstable.

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

Charles,I was made aware of this but did not check on the Memory usage after multiple loading of shapes and yes, you are correct. My available WIN-XP Ram decreased by 19522 K after loading 8 shapes. Not that this would worry me a lot, having 1.5 Gb RAM on the Mobo ! But after exiting the SFV available RAM was back to where it was before.O t t o

Otto,
True the RAM returns after SFV is closed, but it means that one has to close then reopen when processing many shapes. Also it depends on the size of the shape how much RAM you lose. I had one jump of 30+MB. Also at 1.5GB of RAM I would say you are on the very high end for most users. While at 256MB I may be below average. However one should expect a program to give back RAM after a data file is closed. I expect that if you opened enought Shapes w/o closing SFV you would experience the same problems.

RE: Shape View 1.2 released now

I was not aware of this either, but it looks like I've fixed it.It may also solve a few problems we were having with route riter and the next conbuilder.I'm sending it out to Yuri and Otto for upload now and uploading to UKTrainsim.I'll send it out to all the other sites on tuesday when I'm back at work.
Any of the existing download sites in france, spain, belgium and germany should be able to pick it up from one of the above sites before then.

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

LAST EDITED ON May-02-04 AT 08:49 AM (EDT)

Hi Paul :1.- Is it OK (in principle) for free release on www.the-train.de ?2.-The integration in RouteRiter 5.1.0 does not work (as Otto mentioned ?).
It used to work fine a few weeks ago (don't use it often from there, as I have associated .S with SView...)
Now tried with earlier SView1.0 & 1.1, same, RR wants to call Redmond...
So I rather suspect a bug in RR, right ?3.- As soon as I try a screenshot, I get
Erreur d'exécution '-2005529767 (88760b59)'
Erreur Automation

Regardless whether JPG option ticked or not.
Strangely enough, SView1.0 WORKS, while SView1.1 did not either, as I reported earlier...
Running WinXP (german) with french keyboard/settings, P4-2.66GHz, 786 MB DDRAM.4.-Just tried the 'View Low Quality Textures', which I suggest to rename to 'View at Sim Color Depth'.
Yeah, a wheel viewed in HSL 191-13-57 in SVIEW (strictly same as ACE) then comes at 0-0-57 in SVIEW\LowQ', as debated in other thread.
Hopefully this will help killing the story of efficient DXT1 compression beeing 'lossy', when MSTS' graphic engine is even worse !Yes, these little catalan BERGA steamers are jewels !Love and Peace

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

You are welcome to add it to the-train.deThere is a possible solution to the RR error - Mike posted on UKTShttp://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=29475Even though the new version of the trainlib.ocx is compatible with the old, it seems windows doesn't like two copies hanging around.

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

Hi Paul !Mike's instructions did not work.I got PicFormat32.dll and Trainlib.ocx in C:\Windows\System32 and in all the Programs Folders using the SFV as well and ran Regsvr32 the way you told me and also tried Mike's version.Works with the SFV and ConBuilder but not with the Route Riter. Having the use of both of the former, the Route Riter not being able to use it is not much of a problem, but I am just curious why not ! Had it working in the Route Riter once but then SFV & ConBuilder announced a Runtime Error 374 "Failed to activate Control VB.User Control" !Also noticed in the REGISTRY that the PicFormat32.dll is not classed as a "Shared" Dll. Should it be ? There is only one Trainlib.ocx registered and that is in C:\Windows\System32.But there were a couple of PicFormat32a.PicFormat32 entries in the Registry. Removed one, did not make any difference.O t t o

LAST EDITED ON May-05-04 AT 11:18 AM (EDT)

Well, OTTODAD Let's quietly grant the generous developpers a bit more time...I will delay the upload of SView1.2 to the-train.de by a few days, until everything works 98% 'idiotproof', to avoid any bad mishaps.
Standard simmers (the vast majority), are not acquainted with deep registry editing nor .ocx /.dll file management My SView (last 1.2 version) will still stubbornly refuse to take internal screenshots, too, & would not integrate properly into last RR5.1.0 despite Mike's suggested registry mods implemented. All in all, the tools are just absolutely GREAT, can't even realize how we did before they were released !Never mind, sip & enjoy your tankload full of excellent french Cognac which Jim set up on your private Wipfel PO&N8 station,
- how about Armagnac, a less known C2H5OH delicacy ? -Let me know, if/when you plan to ride the REAL RhB again ?& please, dont call me Moritz after an outdated pseudo, my mame is Pierre...Love and Peace

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

Mike is still looking into the problem- it could be that Carlos and I are using the latest patch for VB6 (SP6)It will probably need a small patch to RR to fix the error.Picformat32.dll is just an old style code library, it does not need to be registered (and won't let you do it)

RE: Shape View 1.2 soon

Hi Pierre ! I like that much better, suits you, looking at your mug shot ! Armagnac used to be one of favourite tipples, trouble is that it's price does not compete with the £ 12.50 for a litre of TESCO Napoleon Cognac, by name only, but really smooth, silky and drinkable, usually mixed with something, including the milk for my Oat Bran Breakfast ! Can't make the RhB this year but probably the next ! Take Care, O t t o.

I am not the only one with that problem, Bob.Do you also have the latest ConBuilder which uses the SFV also and of course the latest Shape File Viewer itself ?Mind you, mine is the latest CB-BETA version, using the latest SFV trainlib.ocx, which may do different things to what your's does, clashing with the Route Riter ?Very strange !
