Hi
Looking for an explanation -
Got the original Train sim when it first came out, in the 'big' box.
A while back, went to install Train Sim on another computer.
Discovered my #2 CD was scratched, wouldn't install.
Went to Ebay, somebody selling a used version. (Not a pirate or copy, came in the small box, etc.) Bought it, then the person who wanted Train sim on their computer changed their mind.
No big deal, I needed a replacement cd anyway. Now...
I managed to crash my harddrive. Screwed everything up so badly, couldn't even get the old baby to boot. Since I have almost everything backed up on CDs, decided to reformat and reinstall.
(Windows needs to be cleaned out every couple years anyway!)Finally got around to installing Train Sim, with my "new" CDs.
Everything went well. Did not load up all my add-ons, yet.
Went to run it. Got a message - "please insert correct cd" ??????
Never needed to do this before, but I inserted CD # 1 - no go - inserted CD #2, and no go. Uninstalled. Reinstalled. Same message.
On a hunch, from my backup CDs, copied "original" Trainsim exe file over the newly installed version.
Everything ran fine.So - is the Train Sim that comes in the small box a different version than the original? When did it start requiring the CD to be used? And why didn't my 'new' CDs work?
Or did I get ripped off? Except for the size of the box, it sure looks real; CDs look exactly like my originals, serial number, installation, etc.Any real suggestions would be appreciated. And some advice - back up EVERYTHING, because you just might need it.
(Sorry for the long post)
Thanks

RE: Installation Problem

The 1.2 version requires a disk to be present. You acted correctly in loading the exe file, so the disc is no longer required.David

I hate to beg differ with you but the version in the large box and the small are exactly the same Microsoft didn't make a copy of any updated version on CD hence the Download of the 1.2 Update.I have the original version in the big box where my 2 brothers have the little box and it is exactly the same.want proof of that look at the box carefully to see if the version has changed but not likely.the BOX saysB87-00002

RE: Installation Problem

There have been threads on this before. Download and install the version 1.2 update, and your need for a CD in the drive will disappear.
