I was just curious as to what some of you will do first once you get the Surfliner installed? I am itching to see what other freight equipment will come with the route, so probally the first thing I will do is open the AE and take a peek. The Dash 9's we have already seen only further intice me. Then I will probally take some time and look at the map in the AE of the route and maybe make the guide while I am at it, or at least start it.As much as I am looking forward to running a Surfliner down to San Diego, I will probally start off with a lowly Santa Fe manifest to give me time to soak in the route at a slower speed. I don't think I have looked forward to a route like this since TP II, and much like TPII, this should easily live up to any exspectations. For those wondering, yes, I will be making a guide pretty much the same day I get the route, and also I will be uploading a Surfliner timetable. Its pretty much the same as the one I already uploaded, except for it adds the Coaster trains for San Diego. The timetables are for a handful of the Metrolink, Surfliner and Coaster trains that run the route, and while anyone can get this info from the web, I just made it a bit easier.Chris Bogley

Think I'll load up some UP SD70Ms with a good 5000ft of intermodel and go cruising up and down the line. Austin

LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-04 AT 08:15 PM (EDT)

Don't get too excited, I read over at the FP forums that there may be another delay.for those with access: http://www.facingpoint.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=36&t=4078&s=3b0bf3ec9a241866ccd8ec307cc78c7dEDIT: I would run something over the line ( I actually haven't thought about it until now), but it will probably be something orange and black . RE: First train down the Surfliner?

Who cares? It seems a lot of people have payed money upfront for a route that has yet to bear fruit.Meanwhile, there have been loads of free and payware routes which have actually produced the goods.I am not holding my breath on this route.David

When I first get the route I'm going to stick with running the Surfliner from San Diego to L.A. at 90mph, then maybe I might do some freight running.

>When I first get the route I'm going to stick with running
>the Surfliner from San Diego to L.A. at 90mph, then maybe I
>might do some freight running. I don't understand why everyone seems to think the entire route is 90 MPH. Believe it or not, very little of it IS sustained 90 MPH running. And even where there is a somewhat longish stretch of 90 MPH allowed, because of terrain and stations, the trains rarely hit 90 MPH.The 90 MPH maximum speed limit starts just south of Santa Ana...and from that point it is a stiff grade up to Irvine, the upgrade continues a few more miles. And then about 4-5 miles ONLY of downhill before the next station, San Juan Capistrano. (And have fun trying to spot the train properly there coming down that stiff grade at 90, and into a35 zone....)Then the next 90 MPH zone is through Camp Pendleton, from San Onofre to just north of Oceanside, about 15 miles. Rolling hills through this stretch. Next 90 stretch is from Oceanside to Encinitas, about 8 miles total, drop to 70...then another two miles of 90, then back down to 65 for a couple miles...back to 90 for two more miles, and that's it.Basically, there are only about 47 miles of 90 MPH running on the entire 126 mile route. There's all too much of 25-30-45-50-65 limits as well. That's why the trains take just under three hours for the route, which is an average of about 45 MPH.

RE: First train down the Surfliner?

Since I ride BBD Cabcars quite often, I really want to see how well they have been replicated, sounds, cab etc. So I may go for an Oceanside to LA commuter. Then take a surfliner back to LA... I forsee no sleep for a while once its release
It's a shame the forums over their have become a flame fest lately. But not much we can do, untill people calm down abit. Hehe... Maybe I'll open the route up in Explore, test all the new loco types, just for a taste of the action. But I agree with SVTS, looking in AE is a good way to start off

I'll probably load the game into the RE just to see if it works, then I'll load it into MSTS, and then fall out of my chair, so then I'll climb back on, and run a little while until I hear some of that Dynmaic Audio telling me what to do, wherein I will promptly fall out of my chair again, and maybe lose my socks. In which case I'll go put on another pair, because that's what my signiture is for.Either way, I'll be having a fun time. --The FBL Commuter Edition!!!!!!---You can never have too much inner beauty. Or socks.

First of all: It is not said, that there will be another delay! They are having problems with the shopping software, pre-sale HAS stopped, no further shipping costs will be waived. This is being said within the forum by FP officials. Full stop.Secondly: My first train on the Surfliner, actually up the surfliner will be an explore route run from San Diego to LAUPT to get acquainted and see every nice detail on the route.I am looking very much forward to the route!Cheers!SebastianFeel free to IM me on: sstyrnol@hotmail.com

RE: First train down the Surfliner?

Should be one of the best MSTS payware routes if they ever get the bugs worked out. However they are on track to make it a full year since the original release date the way things are going. But ti should be well worth any delay and wait involved. Plenty of free stuff out there to play with till then.Chris Bogley

What Tim and Chuck said! This is THE BEST route to be hitting the "shelfs" soon.. just be patient.. I know everybody has heard it, but we ALL KNOW how bad and unstable the game. They are trying things that has never been CONSIDERED for this game. I promise you, it will blow your minds when you get it.

What Tim, Chuck, and Brian said! The route is so far beyond what anyone else has done, the surprises you'll find will blow you away. Impatient or not, this route has been worth the wait.

Hey it would be the perfect opportunity to further her education on the workings of railroads and a perfect oppertunity for relationship building in communication . I think my girlfriend remembers my explanation of a FRED, even though I tease her about it; all in good fun though. It is interesting to realize all the knowledge about railroads we take for granite, being railfans, that the general public has no idea about.First train down the Surfliner? – image 18

That could be taken in some humourous ways! >It is interesting to realize all the knowledge about railroads we take for granite, being railfans, that the general public has no idea about.Agreed Mike!! Today, I have been replacing couplers on my model railway. I had to explain what a "Stack Train" was and what "Intermodal" meant. >Mike Forster<

RE: First train down the Surfliner?

I can share along here. My g/f now my wife was afraid of trans when we met. Soon as I took her on board the Surfliner and Metrolink trains including some light rail, she just fell in love with trains. Now on her days off from work when I can't go with her I ask her where ya going and she tells me for a train ride and I dont care where I go as long as I'm on a train. It's amazing how the passion of trains can catch on to someone, especially someone who was afraid of trains.
If you want to travel plain take a plane, If you want to travel in fame take a train!
