I'm running a Intel Celeron 2.4G Processor, 512M Ram, 80G HDD and a Radeon 9200 128Mhz Video card on a Gigiabyte Motherboard. On MSTS at
1024 x 768 at 32 I struggle to reach a frame rate of 10 fps. Can anyone please let me know as to what could be going wrong. Thanks
Andrew

K,You definitly have some issues as I am running half that system and I hardly ever see below 15 FPSAthlon 1.2
256MB Ram
GeForce FX5200 128MB video card.I run the game with all the settings and sliders on max in 32bit 1024 x 768 resolution.Do you by chance have a bunch of applications running in the backgroundeg. Firewall - Virus Scanner - etcStart by shutting those down while you are running Train SimHope this is a good start

I didn't know Celeron now are 2.4Ghz! Maybe that's the problem?

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: Frame Rate Problems

The Intel "Celery" CPU is your problem. Those are the chips that fall off the Pentium assembly line and get stepped on by people before they give them away. They should be outlawed.DKT

RE: Frame Rate Problems

Andrew, you did not say which WIN O/S you are running. If it's WIN-98SE then that's about average for Routes with lots of Objects content. Turning Shadows off helps.O t t o

Otto, just for the record .. I'm using a PIII 800 with 256meg of ram (Win98SE) 64meg card and rarely see lower than 10fps. Doing an activity for NEC with as many as 4 AI in the general vicinity and only occasionally will it drop below 10. Also built my entire route with the same equipment and have had very few problems. I think the vid-card makes the biggest difference in fps from what I've seen. Had a 32meg ATI and more than doubled the framerate and smoothness after installing the 64meg card. Also, making sure there is absolutely nothing running except the Sim. When I boot up, I have 98% resources available, which doesn't hurt either. btw, can't remember the last time I completely froze it up requiring a pull the plug to get it back. I think much of it is common sense and not rushing things.RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

RE: Frame Rate Problems

Yes Bob, I still use my older WIN-98SE I started running MSTS on, now my Internet Comms machine and improved it with a nVIDIA TI-4600 and 512Mb DDR-RAM on an AMD XP1900+ Mobo. Helps to check certain BETA jobs to make sure guys with similar setups get a reasonable performance.Routes like the N.&.J.C. are the worst, Frame rates likely to drop to below 10 frequently, but not for very long. As you said, what else the machine does while running MSTS also matters !Take Care, O t t o.

RE: Frame Rate Problems

I've struggled with poor framerates as well as lockups for weeks - seems to me disconnecting from the internet and turning off my virus protection helps more than anything, taking me from an average of 10-17 fps to 25 fps or better.

RE: Frame Rate Problems

I keep forgetting to mention that running Software in smaller Hard Disk Logical Drive Partitions also helps to speed up fetching Data from disk, reducing stuttering in MSTS, improving the momentarily associated drop in Frame Rates.Data is retrieved quicker from a 30 Gb Partition than a 120 Gb one ! It's second nature to me not to have HUGE Drive Partitions for all sorts of reasons, BACKING-UP Partitions being one of them, and Data Security if your WIN-SYS DRIVE C: goes kaput is another ! Hi Andrew,>Thanks everybody I have since intalled a Pentium P4 3.2G processor on a gigabyte motherboard with an 8x AGP Port but
>still only manages 7 fps when starting off. I'm running windows xp home. At the moment I am struggling with playing MSTS on my server, a pIII 500 and a Matrox Millenium g400 Max, and I struggle as well. The 9200 is the entry level Ati product, meaning its the slowest.
Your next purchase should be a new video card.
