The problem lies with the default couplers in those pics, they are too high. If you look at photos of real locomotives, you will see that the couplers are not mounted that high. On the well cars, the way they are modeled is not logical...the couplers should extend out from the centersill, not be tacked onto the top of the end deck like that. My couplers are slightly below the prototype 34.5 inches from railhead to coupler center. Considering that most freight car wheels are around 33-36 inches in diameter, the center of the coupler should be roughly in line with the top of the wheels. I really have no idea what they were thinking when they created these default couplers, they spent all that time taking pics and recording sounds, not one of those guys took the time to put a tape measure to a coupler?Cliff Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-23-01, 08:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: 89' KTTX Flat & Trailers Coupler too low?" I guess that is where the problem lies.. Its certainly that can be a problem thats lived with since its just cosmetic..
But as you can see, 3 different models, 3 different coupler heights..All 3 are great models so if it comes down to that being the only problem, I'll take that hands down! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

These are great models. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Though I do like seeing CN now and again as I see quite a bit while I'm up at the cottage in Ontario during the summer, There is a single railline that run about mile or so north of the lake I'm on, Runs east to Thunder Bay, back west to Fort Francis and the town to the west of us CN has a yard there, not a bad sized one either considering size of the town..
I could just Run CSX since here in the states the town I'm in has 3 yards in it and town is surrounded by CSX Tracks, but I get sick of seeing CSX all the time..
