Hey Guys,I need help !I'm kinda new to MSTS, but not new to computers. I guess some would say "NERD", I like things to be "structured".I have renamed my Loco's in a standard that I can understand, i.e I have renamed the folders under the TRAINSET folder as, for example, AU_NSW_48 this is where I move all the files for any Australian, New South Wales, 48 class loco's.I hope you are keeping up with me, otherwise click the "back" button and ignore my plight !So my problem is, when I use an activity that I have downloaded ( thanks for the Coal Road Version 2 Gavin Mclaughlan - It is Great !!).The activity expects the ".con", ".wag" and ".eng" files to be in a particular folder, depending on the naming convention that the author has used.I have a lot of respect for the authors, I think it's great that they are willing to post there "works of art" for us to share.Stay with me, cos I getting to the point... If a consist needs to be updated because the eng or wag files are in a different folder, it is simple to fix this using 'CONBUILDER", you just open and save the consist. Here is my problem; Sometimes in an activity, I recieve an error that an eng file or wag file cannot be found. I can fix thsi the hard way by editing the .act file, and type in the correct path. They treains appear to ne under the heading "Loose Consists"
Can someone out there if there is another way to update the .act file, and also tell me how these entrties are added into the .act file in the first place. My suspision is that it's something to do with passing traffic, but I don't know how to edit passing traffic. Can someone help please !!.Regards Brian

RE: Loose consist

Hi Brian,
Renaming files to suit is pretty common I believe and most have suffered from the one or two errant consist errors.
The only way I have ' fixed ' those 'Loose Consists' is by directly editing them but they can be done by opening Pandora`s Box ( Activity Editor) and editing the files there, hopefully another member can help you from here on with regard to editing the Traffic files, I try not to venture to deep into AE
I don`t know if it can be done in Conbuilder, I haven`t tried.Regards

RE: Loose consist

Hi there,Thanks for your advise. Conbuilder allows you to identify loose consists, but it tells you to go to activity editor. I gave that a try, but could not work out where in AE to go .I figured out how to use Route Riter. It's a long slow process if I want to use all of the Coal Road activities, but it's safer that using notepad I guess.I'm still not sure what a loose consist actually is. Is it passing traffic ? ( I think that's A1 in sim speak ?). So if anyone can throw some light on this please Regards Brian

RE: Loose consist

Apart from making your Route running Activities more "Lived in", like Stumble says in a purty way , they can also be coupled on to with your Player Train and parts dropped of again elsewhere. If you go into a Route's Activity with the Activity Editor then you should see them like it the Screenshot below, taken from a P.O.&.N. Activity. Each one is called "Loose Consist" and has not got a name of it's own.To find out what they are made up of go into an Activity's .act file with a text Editor and you will see them all listed in detail.O t t oPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 1
