Please follow these steps IF you get a "failed to initialize train world" error on loading the GM&O Northern Lines route....1) Exit Train Simulator and restart your computer.2) Run Kosmos 1.0 (if you do not have this great piece of environmental control GET IT! The route can NOT be made to work without it plus you're missing some GREAT skies and animated planes!).3) Run the Kosmos WIZARD option, select GM&O Northern Lines from the list of routes.4) Scroll down through your choice of environments and select "DEFAULT CLEAR".5) Click "SUMMER" and "CLEAR" pips on either side of the top of the wizard window.6) Click OK (NEXT?) and let Kosmos do it's thing. When it reports that it is done exit Kosmos, run Train Simulator and load up the route. It should now function.WARNING: I have confirmed the TWIF error here and was able to solve it using this procedure.I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT FIRST-TIME USERS OF THE ROUTE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:1) Run M$TS and open the route in EXPLORE MODE.
2) After M$TS generates the terrain buffer files (Be patient! It'll take a LONG time!) and you will most likely still get the TWIF error.
3) Get out of M$TS and follow the Kosmos steps listed above.JBD

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

Thanks, Jim I am sure this is my problem and I needed some help figuring out just what to do with Kosmos as I am new to that program. I ran the routeriter tests on the route and it came up with missing shape and ace files for the pesky yellow buffer (easy to fix) and a bunch of ace files for environmental stuff that I suspect comes from Kosmos. Also thanks for the content of your web site which provides a resonably complete set of GMO equipment which is scarce on the other free sites - mostly ICG stuff and that much bright orange is hard on the eyes. I would recomend your site to anyone interested in GMO stuff and I suspect you'll find something in your paypal account from me later this week-end. Thanks again for your help. Be Seeing you.

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

The website is Paul Fowler's NOT mine. Please give him the proper credit for those efforts....The yellowbuffer.ace file problem is the result of using Hobart's US Buffer replacement. RouteRiter has persistently dropped the ball on that one. Get that quick download, install it (it becomes a global object) and all shall be well PLUS all your other routes with that ugly non-U.S. "thing" will automatically convert to the new steel bumper post shape!JBD

Last night I heard an old freight whistle blow, as I was sleeping warmly in your bed-And it told me "Boy, it's time that you was packin' up to go.", but I smiled and shook the leavin' from my head.

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

I'm just curious why you made Kosmos a requirement for the route? For those of us with dial up, it makes the route download quite a bit larger. -Jeff

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

Kosmos really isn't a requirement as the route will run without it but the files I posted (discovered after zipping/processing/etc. of over 8 hours work) had summer files still set up....Easier to do it plus a little personal plug for the WAY KEWL Kosmos stuff!JBD

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

Hey Jim thanks for pointing out my error concerning Paul Fowler's website. Looks like I'm all set to get you route running pdq tonight or tomorrow. As to that yellow critter, it does seem to pop up missing on lots of routes. Paul if you are listening: I apologize for the incorrect credit above, thanks much for the site and you and not Jim will see some cash in your paypal account over the weekend.Be Seeing you.

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

So what you guys are saying is that the only to make GM&O Northern Route to run is to install Kosmos 1.0? My question is what will happen if I install Kosmos 1.0, when I already have Sky Conductor installed? The Kosmos 1.0 readme file says both programs will work together, Is this true. If anybody has had conflict problems please reply. GLG.

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

It is my understanding that Kosmos is compatible. In fact, many of the Kosmos environments are from Sky Conductor 2....Kosmos is a utility you run OUTSIDE of M$TS and, as I see it, as long as you don't process the environments of a route with it you won't have any problems. In other words, what you've applied Sky Conductor to should NOT be affected.JBD

RE: GM&O "world initialization failure" FIX

Check off the following:___ I have XTracks 3.9 and the accompanying global tsection.dat file installed.___ I have downloaded and installed NewRoads per its instructions.___ I ran the INSTALLME.BAT file after I unzipped the route. If you have done all of the above the route should be up and running. Continuing to get the TWIF error then something is amiss in your unzipping process. All of the files should be the exact same size except for the one .zip file....JBD
