Whilst doing some elementary research into this route (I try and get an understanding of those routes which I download but about which I know absolutely bugger-all) I came across this photo. It has to be one of the most evocative I have seen and certainly goes a long way towards explaining the fascination of this railroad.http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=52662Regards,
Bruce.

The Coast Division in Washington State isn't too shabby, either. I'd really like to see it done ( Todd? ).If you can get Green Frog Productions Video "Pacific Northwest Kaliedoscope" , you'll see what I mean. Timtimmuir@wcn.net

RE: Milwaukee Road, Rocky Mt. Division.

For those interested in a good read about the Milwaukee Road in Washington,Idaho, and Montana check out "The Milwaukee Road Revisited"by Stanley W.Johnson.His stepfather worked for the Milwaukee Road for 53 years and retired in 1953 after many years as a conductor on passenger trains between Spokane and various Montana depots.I checked it out of the local library about a year ago, enjoyed so much that I had to have a copy.I found one after a search at
http://www.abebooks.com which has the inventory of about 12000 used book sellers.
