More motive power for your Rocky Mountain Division freights! As promised, Chuck and I refined the E45 and E33 sets and I uploaded all 8 zips tonight. These include:E45A lead unit; E45C full-size booster; E45D "bobtail" booster; E45B trailing cab unit.
More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded – image 1
Of note about this model of the E45A, and Milwaukee Road practice, for some reason, there is only a single classification lamp on the right front corner. This is noted in many photos of the E45, while at the same time, photos of other motors show a single marker lamp on the opposite corner. Still other pix show two markers, one at each upper corner. The forthcoming E33 set will have them arranged so.
E33A lead unit, in 2 versions, pantograph raised and panto lowered; E33C "Bobtail" booster with pantograph and raised; E33D "bobtail" booster; and E33B trailing cab unit.
More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded – image 2
Here, on the RMD2, is the E33A with lowered pantograph, as seen in Green Frog Video's "Pacific Northwest Kaleidoscope". It is shown in the tape on Snoqualmie Pass in Washington, on the Coast Division of the Milwaukee, with the pans arranged so: Front unit down; second, "bobtail" unit has a pantograph and is raised; The third bobtail has no pan, and the final unit has it's pan lowered too. I thought it was an interesting looking locomotive, so had to have it. I am passing it on to fellow juicers.Below, the pantograph raised version, also an interesting looking arrangement:
More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded – image 3The final release to come will be the E25's, 4-unit EF-5 in 1952 equipment and lettering:

Thanks!Damon, they were used on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St.Paul RR ( Later expanded to C.M.St.P & Pacific) on their electrified lines in Montana and Washington States, USA. The route they are designed to operate on ( and mostly shown in here) is Jerry Sullivan's RMD2, and is available in this File Library.Timtimmuir@wcn.net

You have created an entire stable of electric motors which visually surpass most of the other engines available..You must really like the "electrics"?
When I take my motors past the greencolured trees, the contrast is fairly breath-taking.Look very real....Thank you.

Everyone, thank you for your kind comments. It really is satisfying to hear after all the many hours of suffering through the many difficulties encountered during the making. It was worth it in the end. >When I take my motors past the greencolured trees, the contrast is fairly breath-taking.Look very real....Thank you. <This is exactly what caught my attention in the video I mention above. The colors against the Cascade Mountain evergreens was striking. I wanted to capture that, along with their majesty. Chuck managed to capture even more with his sound and physics editing, which give these motors substance beyond the visual. (While riding in the cab, the sound of the motors reminds me of a flight of B-17's.)

Again. Thank you. To be ranked with the likes of Jon Davis is a high honor. I have always felt inspired by Jon's work, and these motors are a testament to that.By the way....has anyone found the Easter Egg in the E33A foder yet? The Crew figures are by Paul Gausden, used with his kind permission.

Not a standard Milwaukee caboose, based off my old PEPCO crummy from before last year. It is loosely representative of the Milwaukee's 01500 class woodies used in local and worktrain service. Not perfect, but will work in a pinch. Chuck Zeiler did the lighting, weathering and installed Paul's GWR engine crew on the back platform.Acchh!! I forgot to mention that the caboose wag calls for DZUG.sms file, which we were using to test the caboose. Unless you already have this sound file, delete the current MILWcab1.wag and replace it with the attached. Attached is a corrected WAG file which points to the default genpasswagsteam.sms.

These units are great and the caboose is an added treat. I really like the number 5 view on some of the engines, it's a great brakeman view. Thanks Take care,
Rich S.

Tim,
Like Damon, I am neither familiar with these units nor the region in which they operated, but I think that there is a kindred spirit because I lived for nearly a decade in the Blue Mountains (west of Sydney, NSW) and the bulk of the (heavy) traffic was hauled by electric locos.
I have a strong leaning towards all things "heavy electric". I have just downloaded all your units - E33, E45 and the earlier E57 and its "helper" - and will download over the next few days the route for which they were designed. In the meantime, you have given me the incentive to do some research on the Milwaukee Road's Rocky Mountain Division, which may help answer the question "Why was the Milwaukee Road the only company to choose electric power for their route through the Rockies?"Thank you for some great models.Bruce.

RE: More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded .....

Hi Bruce,You are very welcome for the motors. I can answer your question why. A Milwaukee Road coal-fired steam loco had caused a forest fire in the Bitterroot mountains in the early part of the 20th century, and the government forbade them using coal from then on. Oil was very expensive to transport the long distances along the route at that time, so the Milwaukee opted for the "new" source of energy. These 1915 boxcabs were the equivilant to a 2-8-8-2 Mallet type. The 42 original boxcabs had replaced 112 steam engines. Timtimmuir@wcn.net

OOps. That was the Cascade Mountains, in Washington, the GN Electrics went through and over, Chuck. And it was because of the long tunnel that ruled out steam locomotives and at the first of diesels, until they built a ventilation system that allowed the latter to operate through.Timtimmuir@wcn.net

I can answer your question why. Thanks, Tim....and Mr. Z, for the links.
That now explains it and I never would have guessed that it was as a result of such an incident! Whilst I go through the throes of collecting the eleven route files, I have, as a short-term measure "electrified" KHP (no catenary though!) and the locomotive looks right at home.
More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded – image 15I have also ordered a 3-DVD set (Pentrex) of the route from Avery to Harlowton, made in 1973, which features the boxcabs and the Little Joe.Regards,
Bruce.

RE: More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded .....

Bruce, it looks good to me.If you would like to add overhead wire, you can open the route’s xxx.trk file, located in the route’s root folder, and change two lines. Here (below) is part of the default Marias Pass route’s usa2.trk file. Using Wordpad, change the two lines in red, or open the route in the Route Editor, select File/Properties, and change it there, Save and Exit. Be sure to make a copy of the route's xxx.trk file before doing this, just in case.If you want to run non-electrified on that route, you can turn off the Overhead Wire in the MSTS/Options/Advanced Display, and un-check that option.SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0r0t______Tr_RouteFile (

Thanks, Chuck.Yes, I had done the "electrification" in RE, as you described.
Thanks for including the screen-shot, as I can now change the wire height and the voltage to suit! I have a query regarding the RM route that is in the File Library (and of which I've downloaded 5 of the 11 files): what distance does it cover and from where to where?Regards,
Bruce.

RE: More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded .....

Bruce, I don't know the answer to that question. Let's hope Jerry Sullivan sees this and answers. In the meantime, I did a quick search for Milwaukee Road maps, and here is a link to one:
http://www.fruitfromwashington.com/History/cmsp.htmand some intersting hand colored postcard views at the same site:
http://www.fruitfromwashington.com/History/railroad2.htmI found Deer Lodge, Butte, and Three Forks. I believe those are the western, middle, and eastern points of Jerry's route. In about the middle of the map there is the notation, "Lines Electrically Operated 440 Continuous Miles", and in the middle of that is Butte, which is also about the middle of Jerry's Rocky Mountain Division route. It looks like there was one heck of a lot of railroad in that area, not evident on the map. There are a lot of interesting scenic sites on Jerry's route, although I'm still arguing with the car spawners. I'm making a few corrections as I go, but don't be surprised to see a few cars and trucks fail to stop at the crossings. The worst, IMO, are the school busses, and I can empathize with what real locomotive engineers must feel as they watch a school bus approach a grade crossing.

RE: More Milwaukee Boxcabs Just Uploaded .....

Bruce, I don't know the answer to that question.Never mind, Chuck.....I was just curious as to the length of the route.
After viewing the map for which you provided the link it would appear that it is a fairly short section, when compared to the entire 440-mile electrification, between Deer Lodge and Three Forks. Thanks for that additional information; the map and postcards are delightful. One thing about which I've always been curious: why do trans-continental railroads in the USA terminate at Chicago?
Why don't they "go all the way" to New York?
Does it have something to do with the movement of freight via the Great Lakes initially and then across country as the railroads developed?I suppose this question stems from our situation here where two capital cities are linked by the east-west trans-continental rail link between Sydney on the east coast and Perth on the west.Sorry for being so inquisitive!Bruce.

You're going to like the pentrex set (especially DVDs- you can turn off the annoying narration!)- I've had it on VHS for 6 years or so. I'm going to have to get the DVDs. But, you also see the steeplecabs too, and all the great scenery along the way.
