I am getting snap crackle and load of morse code type pops I never had this problem when I first loaded MSTS, but I had to reload MSTS, and now I have the problem. I have a soundblaster live 16 PCI card. Any ideas???Cheers in advance

Aug-21-01, 06:49 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Sound Problems" Those pops and crackles are a sign that the game's settings are more than your system can handle.Sometimes a simple device driver update is all it takes, but most of the time the problem is hardware.Marketing won't go public with that statement, but if you look on the Route Design forum for two screen shots I posted, you'll see I had a route that needed 550 MB system memory to run. Without that memory, the audio and video performance would be terrible. The game runs best with at least a Pentium III and nothing less than 128 MB system RAM.The SB-Live Platinum card is an updated design based on the SB-16 design that came out in 1992. It has more processing on the board so your system CPU isn't being pushed too hard. The workarounds for you are to first check Creative's support site for updated drivers. I don't know whether they even update the SB-16 anymore but it's worth a check.Regardless, you should then drop the audio and video settings to the lowest resolution and quality possible in Train Simulator. See if the problem goes away.If it does, start increasing settings slowly to find the item that pushes the system into that interrupted audio stream. There's a tradeoff between quality and performance that many users have to make with Train Simulator.Jim Steven, MCSE

Aug-22-01, 03:47 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Sound Problems" My machine is an AMD 1.4Gb CPU, 256Mb RAM, Geforce II 64Mb Ram, Windows ME, and 3 x 20Gb HDD, the lowest component would be the sound card. I didn't have a problem with the sound on the first installation of MSTS, But I reloaded MSTS and now well...snap crackle and SOS. I think that my machine is fairly capable of handling the sim, maybe a bit dodgey on the sound card spec....but surely a SB16 should be good enough.

If all else fails, try reducing the "hardware acceleration" slider (via My Computer/Control Panel/Multimedia/Advanced Properties). It worked for me.T. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-22-01, 04:49 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Sound Problems" Hey TinI agree with you, It's called tuning. If people would take a little time to tune the sim to their system configurations, It would eleminate a lot of problems.Chuck Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
