Aug-21-01, 07:57 AM (EST) "Trouble on Marias Pass" I'm fairly new to this game, so I hope this isn't too stupid of a question. I'm having some trouble at a particular spot on Marias Pass in Exploratory mode and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Somewhere's around marker 1150.7 (when you crest the giant hill) I keep derailing the train no matter how I approach it and I don't know why.The sign post reads green/red as I come up to it and as soon as my engine passes it, it goes red/red and the train derails. I'm not going very fast and I tried stopping as the instructions say, but I still derail and the activity ends. What am I doing wrong? I want to continue through the whole Pass but I can't until I figure out what i'm doing wrong.I hope this wasn't too dumb a question for everyone Joe Wells Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-21-01, 03:22 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" The only solution I can come up with is to stay on the south track. If you're eastbound (Whitefish headed to Shelby) hit the G key as you approach Java East. That'll put you on the south track, and you'll get thru Marias OK. As you cross the bridge west of Cut Bank, hit the G key again. You won't come apart at Cut Bank on the north track if you're eastbound, but I come apart at Shelby if I'm on the north track.If you're westbound (Shelby headed to Whitefish) cross over to the south track as you leave Shelby, otherwise you'll come apart at Cut Bank. As you cross the bridge leaving Cut Bank, hit the G key and you'll be on the south track. Otherwise, you'll come apart at Piegan. After that, you're OK on any track to Whitefish.I haven't thoroughly tested it, but I think you can cross over at Piegan and not come apart. I think you can cross over at Marias and not come apart, but again, haven't tested thoroughly. I did accidently end up on the north trach, headed east at Marias, and crossed over and made it without uncoupling, but it was a light weight test train, (one loco, two cars), so not much of a test. Aug-21-01, 07:55 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" Thanks Chuck. I figured it might be something I didn't understand, not being a railway expert. I love trains but don't know much about the proper way things are done on the tracks.Joe Wells Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-21-01, 08:22 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" I've been having the same problems with uncoupling. As far as I have tested I can't even go through the crossovers without coming undone. Very frustrating to work on an activity and get to that point to have everything go up in smoke.

Aug-21-01, 08:56 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" Joe, this has nothing to do with the right way to do things on a railroad. This is a bug in the program and one of several work-arounds that people have found until hopefully Microsoft issues a patch to fix the bugs. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-21-01, 08:45 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" I noticed that after leaving CutBank and doing the whole route and coming bank into CutBank, I will derail on the bridge if I go over the speed limit. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-22-01, 00:25 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" Hey all,
I've heard of all kinds of fixes for this problem and the only one that worked for me was to change all the .wag and .eng files. First make a back-up copy of the file. Then open the files with Wordpad and change the line that reads Break( 1.1e7N 1.1e7N ) to Break( 5.1e7N 5.1e7N ). Sample:
Coupling (
Type ( Automatic )
Spring (
Stiffness ( 1e6N/m 5e6N/m )
Damping ( 1e6N/m 1e6N/m )
Break ( 5.1e7N 5.1e7N ) <<<< change this line.
r0 ( 20cm 30cm )
)
Velocity ( 0.1m/s )
)

There must be a bug related to 'the most north track', for the Marias Pas the above mentioned fix works fine but in the Testrange route it does not work. There are 4 tracks side by side and on the North track (going east) I always derail or uncouple, no matter how carefull I drive.
There is one thing I can't understand, if I drive with an Acela there is no problem but if I drive with an intermodel (2 dash9 locks and 20 freight cars) I keep getting broken couplers or derailment.Greetings,Nightrider Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-22-01, 06:41 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Trouble on Marias Pass" Thanks all. I didn't realize this was a bug. As I said, i'm new to this game and this board so I have missed any past references to this bug. I'll try the fix listed here and see if it helps me get past mile marker 1150.7. I sure hope so.Joe Wells Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
