Aug-21-01, 08:43 AM (EST) 2. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" One of my testers on this activity reported the same problem, but I couldn't duplicate it and initially discounted it. However, the tester and I since learned that the problem is due to the SD40 bounding box info in the .eng file. Because the SD40 is the trailing unit in this activity and couples to the cars during the setouts, people with problems getting the SD40 to couple properly have had to edit the .eng file to change the bounding box information. I'm sorry I don't have all the details, but perhaps someone who does can post the fix. The tester was unable to use the SD40 effectively until the change and now swears by it.Another alternative for the problem would be to go into the Activity Editor and change the consist of the player train to substitute a Dash9 for the SD40, but you would then need to delete any saves of the activity and restart.Hope someone will post the info on the bounding box fix for SD40 coupling problems. Aug-21-01, 02:58 PM (EST) 5. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" Firefytr:Download Nels Anderson's "drivable" SD40 here at Train-Sim. It includes the modified file to fix the "bounding box" parameters.IMO, you may have to modify the *.eng and *.wag coupler break values to completely solve this. The "bounding box" modification was primarily for those that could not re-couple using the SD40. Would refuse to re-couple or would cause a derail with normal coupling speeds. (1-2mph)Hope this helps1

Aug-21-01, 06:07 PM (EST) 6. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" Thanks for the help, Ben, and as designer on this activity, I apologize for the problem. I put the SD40 in the consist for some variety, not realizing that my driveable SD40 did things the default did not, such as coupling and not causing derails. Probably should specify in the readme that drivable SD40 is necessary to make the activity setouts. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-23-01, 09:06 PM (EST) 9. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" firefytr1:This sounds a little unusual....Have you d/l'd any Car updates that may be using the wrong brake forces? Or, are you using default Cars? Also, have you updated the *.eng and *.wag Coupler Break Values?Flarrfan or others may jump in with better suggestions for your problems.... Not having any problems on my end after updating the SD40's *.sd file and Coupler Break Values for engines/cars. I also have the updated physics files for all three diesels (Dash9, GP38, SD40.

Aug-25-01, 01:50 PM (EST) 11. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" firefytr1:As posted by flarrfan:Open your Trainset folder in the Trains folder within the main Train Sim folder. You'll see more folders representing all your cars and engines. In each of these folders is a file, .eng for the locos and .wag for the cars. You must open the .eng and .wag files with WordPad (NOT Notepad). About 10-15 lines down from the top is a line for Coupler Break values. There are two identical combinations of numbers and letters in this one line, both beginning with 1.1. I have eliminated the breaking coupler bug on the Marias Pass route by editing 1.1 to 5.1 in both places in the same coupler break value line. By establishing an editing routine, you can make all the changes in 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of downloaded cars and engines you have added to the default rolling stock. Here's an example of the default Dash 9 before modifying:Wagon ( Dash9

Aug-26-01, 09:55 AM (EST) 13. "RE: marias pass road freight second edition" are any of the cars crossing a switch ? sometimes the switch flicks back and traps the wheels of the cars onto the other line, only option is to back all the way back..that is of course if this is the problem.. And here's one notch of Throttle leaving Essex after the set-out:
Glad to here everything's working OK now!
