I ran conbuilder and I have tons of errors on eng and wag files. How can Trainsim run with all those errors and where do I start fixing'em?

RE: AAGGHH!! tons of errors

SYNTAX ERROR]
The engine file CONNBRILL1326.ENG in the folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\TRAINS\TRAINSET\CONNBRILL1326\
has missing quotes in the line "Sound".
The error was found on this line: Sound ( Brillcab.sms )
The shape definition file 2603.sd located in the folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\TRAINS\TRAINSET\2603\
is pointing to a file named 2601.s that doesn't exist in the same folder.
The error was found on this line: Shape ( 2601.s

The shape definition file metroliner.sd belonging to the file METROLINERXTRA.ENG
is missing from the folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\TRAINS\TRAINSET\MLNRX_V2\There's 61 critial errors and 44 serious errors. I swear most of this stuff is working but why the errors? I think this is why my track monitor isn't working.

ConBuilder applies a higher standard of examination than the game does, I believe. The problems with your track monitor aren't related to this, or shouldn't be. What these problems will cause are "ACELA.ENG NOT FOUND; CONTINUE?" pop-ups as you load and exit an activity, simply not do something, or crash the game. Just go through and address each individual error. Everyone has to wind up doing it sooner or later; I know I certainly did.

RE: AAGGHH!! tons of errors

Back up your files first! Then try this:Find \TRAINSET\CONNBRILL1326\
and change this line to: Sound ( "Brillcab.sms" )Find \TRAINSET\2603\
and change this line to Shape ( 2603.sFind \TRAINSET\MLNRX_V2\
and back up the .sd file you find.
Then rename the original file metroliner.sd
(Must match the name of the .s file)Advice is worth what you pay for it... your mileage may vary...

MSTS will not care about that. The train will have no sounds instead of giving an error.

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

In this particular case, the train will have sounds!
Quotes are only necessary when there are spaces in the line. Eg Brill cab.sms This is one of the little nasty messages in ConBuilder. You have to cope with it.
And when a .sms file is missing or the name is wrong, MSTS will complain about it.
MSTS will not give any message when a sound (.wav file) is missing.Dick van den HovenAAGGHH! tons of errors – image 14

RE: AAGGHH!! tons of errors

You will find that sometimes correcting 1 entry will get rid of dozens of 'error messages' as that file can be called for many times..so it is not always as scary as it first seems...I get 72 error messages because I have changed the cabview of the Flying Scotsman but it still needs the original .eng file to work even when installed on another engine!!!

Re: Conbuilder and Routeriter

While they are very useful tools for MSTS, they are also somewhat over the top for picking out faults that even MSTS doesn't bother with. (And everyone knows how sensitive that is!).One of the problems is that a lot or freeware routes contain a lot of errors that MSTS may or may not ignore. If MSTS has a problem, the route will not run, errors that conbuilder or routeriter pick up, may not cause problems.Personally, I use the train store errors to correct stuff. It seems to be set on a par with MSTS, and is not over sensitive. I also don't bother loading down much freeware anymore, because I would spend more time correcting errors, than playing the sim.David

RE: Re: Conbuilder and Routeriter

So far its mostly missing sound files or poorly written aliases.
The sound file ..\\..\\SERIES7000\\SOUND\\x_7k_ibrake2_.wav specified by the file pcc1eng.sms
does not exist in the folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\TRAIN SIMULATOR\TRAINS\TRAINSET\HTM1022\SOUND
The error was found on this line: File ( "..\\..\\SERIES7000\\SOUND\\x_7k_ibrake2_.wav" -1 )How can it not see the sound foldr in series7000 and the file there?

RE: Re: Conbuilder and Routeriter

It appears to have been written for a foreign language version of MSTS I fixed that one. Still lots of sound problems.
