Believe it or not, the number of consists can affect other operations. If you have 800+ consists, funny things can happen.Others have found ways around this, but Train Store works for me.Try reducing the number of consists and see what happens.GH2

Brad, are you by any chance getting this with the ADFRR? If you are, there are a few people that have had the same problem with a couple of possibilites of half-way using it. It's kind of a run around, but have the monitor minimized, load what you want in the route (either explore or activity), without even playing it, simply save it and go back to the main window. Finally load up the save and a few people have been able to use it successfully this way. I have no idea what is causing it, but happens mainly with XP.RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

I don't have that either. I have 1487 folders in my transet folder could that cause it?

I think you all might be overlooking something much more basic. Have you made any changes to the driveraids.dat file in the Train Simulator\GUI folder? Possibly you changed colors or transparency or something similar and created an error. Another possibility, it was not saved in unicode format. I don't think it has anything to do with consists.Cal Rasmussen

RE: can't use track monitor

Hi Robert,
If you remember,I was one of the folks that had the F4 problem with Windows XP.Just to let you know,in the last few days I D/Led NEC4 and Chicago Stations v2 and have the same thing happening when I bring up the Track monitor.
Does not affect any other routes.D/Led Columbia Gorge the day it was available and its fine with the track monitor.Still digging here to determine if I have an error in my XP system or what may be causing it.Norton System Works says disk and windows is OK,but I think there are errors that it cant pick up just like scan disk from windows ME.

RE: can't use track monitor

I am not posting to down Norton in any way, but when I had Norton, any of their stuff on my computer I had all kinds of problems running MSTS. Only when I got rid of it did the problems go away and I think the reason is that Norton leaves a lot of itself in memory even when you close it down, whereas many others do not. I always close down everything now that isn't critical to my machine when I run MSTS and have had no problems yet.
The only other reason could be a faulty install of something else. That is why it is important to get and then run all of the fine programs that the brilliant people here have created for the game, like Conbuilder, Routeriter, etc.....and my apologies for not naming them all but my memory is as bad as my .....well we won't get into that!
Anyway, just some suggestions.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

"Hi Robert,

I noticed the NEC4 (haven't used the Chicago Stations v2 yet) is also giving problems. Since it also has a very large combined tdb and rdb (almost 14meg total) I'm wondering if this doesn't have something to do with it. I'm not sure why and have no idea on any way to correct it, but still wonder if there isn't a single setting somewhere that is different or being handled differently. Maybe cache or something related to that. I just don't know, but wish I did. I do know that it has been d/led over 2000 times and I've only heard of approx 20 people with problems and only has been on the OS's. Maybe by the time MSTS2 comes out we'll figure it out. Just my luck! Tim, I don't disagree with on many things but I've used Norton almost from the beginning and have had no problems with it at all. It does take a long time to get it set up the way you want it so the interference isn't there, but once done it's almost a care-free curtain of security and wealth of information. Just my experience .. others' vary considerably RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

RE: can't use track monitor

It sounds like you might have some problems with some of your .eng and .wag files. Believe it or not, while some problems will not cause MSTS to crash outright, if you accumulate enough of them you end up with some of the issues that you are having.Run ConBuilder and check first you engine files and then your wag files. If it comes up with any critical error, then you probably want to fix them first.Take care, Henry

RE: can't use track monitor

Hey, no problem Robert, if it works for you then fine. Just never has for me. I also don't care for the fact that one has to use live update, which to me is more of a problem, at least on my machine, than the actual program itself. Mine updates me automatically, sometimes up to three times or more a day. A much better system, I think, and it has no live update to screw up my computer.
In any event, this has nothing to do with trains I guess, so will drop the subject. So far, I haven't had any problems with the track monitor on any routes I run but have not tried out the two you mentioned. Could be a hundred different reasons this is happening to the twenty or so and could be unrelated to the route or MSTS either. Or perhaps it could have something to do with running a non standard track monitor, if you are running one of the many out there. Just a thought.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: can't use track monitor

Hi,My F4 problem began when I loaded Direct X 9.....I get the problem on a few different routes....then sometimes it will work on the same program. Upgrading to 9b did not help.

RE: can't use track monitor

I just fixed my problem...............I had 1167 consists on file..which is more than 899! (the magic number).
I downloaded a program called "Train Store" from the UK Train-Sim site. This program allows you to actually "Store" trains/consists/activities off the main MSTS program, thus reducing the number it has to sift through to start up.
In my case,it fixed the problem with my F4 key.......
Hope this helps.
Cheers
