Apr-05-01, 09:27 PM (EST) "Transiberian Route" Hi friends...
Yes... ok... I know it's a very large route. But do you think with me that Transiberian route from Moscow to Vladivostok could be a really funny, interesting, amazing task to insert into MSTS?
As an actual scenery designer for Microsoft Flight Simulator and a lover of trains and model trains from my chilhood, sure I shall engage in this route designing as soon as I have my MSTS copy. Of course, too, some interesting routes from Spain, my country.Pedro Aviles

Apr-06-01, 03:27 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Transiberian Route" Good morning Pedro:I think making the scenery for the Tran Siberian Railroad would be a wonderful project, though from what I've read and seen in travel documentaries on the Public TV Channel, long stretches of it might be quite boring.Continue the good work you are doing with Flight simulator scenery Pedro and good luck and best wishes. Apr-07-01, 09:20 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Transiberian Route" That sounds like quite a challenging goal, Pedro. But I suspect that we will be seeing routes like that being done. Large scenery designs have certainly been done by small groups or even individuals for flightsims so I'm sure we'll see much of the same done for train-sims.Just running the Trans-Siberian route sounds a bit daunting though...that's a long distance! Even flying it takes a long time Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-07-01, 10:59 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Transiberian Route" Nels, and JimSure is a long, long distance even for a flight, but may be I'm talking about the "hard core" train simmers like us Transiberian "Rossiya" Route, the clasical between Moscow and Vladivostok, is 9298 KM long. May be divided into a lot of stages routes. For example we can choose to design the route scenery between stations where locomotives and its crew are raised.
I think the largest not stop stage is 381 KM between Perm station and Sverdlovsk Pass station. In this way the whole scenery route would be divided into twenty, may be more, scenery routes. Though I think is a enormous task to engage to, sincerely I think it would result in the most exciting design project I ever have made. Anyway, may be I'm talking too much about this . Let us wait to have the MSTS in our pool. And Jim... thanks for your words about my Flight Simulator scenery design.CheersPedro Aviles

Apr-09-01, 12:22 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Transiberian Route" I get the impression that the routes that will come with the MS TrainSim are all abreviated routes. To do an entire route system of any given railway would probably take up two or three harddrives. Scenery is very space intensive, especially the detailed stuff I see that MS is doing in TrainSim.Rich

Apr-09-01, 12:56 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Transiberian Route" Hi Rich, May be you be right. I think, however, that the sorrounding scenery route (I mean the terrain) would be included yet in MSTS simulator. The only (I imagine) we must do is modell this terrain according the route map, geographical information and even mesh GS Topo terrain with the MSTS. I think too that we will increase the capacity of our hard drives with the custom objects as buildings, stations, trees, depots, etc... I hope don't be wrong about this though, again, we must wait until MSTS be released.
As in another topic in this forum: "I can't wait". Cheers Pedro Aviles

Apr-09-01, 04:18 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Transiberian Route" I don't think the disk space requirements are going to be all that bad. Each unique 3D object will take some space, but you can reuse objects (trees for example) many times. But hey, if it takes an extra disk drive I'll buy one...disk drives are cheap these days, what, $149 for 40 gigabytes or so?I hope you can do it, Pedro. You've got the designing background so if anyone can why not you?

Apr-09-01, 07:48 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Transiberian Route" I think so Nels.Buy new Hard Drive as I wish to have the complete Trans-Siberian Route ) Thanks too for the "background" you say I have... but, again, I'm trembling meanwhile MSTS arrives. It will be a complete new way in the design world for me. And again, again... I can't wait!!CheersPedro Aviles

Apr-11-01, 02:15 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Transiberian Route" first, let me just say hell of a long route. takes a week for the train to go one way. are you really going to spend a week looking outside at the forest? lol. although once you add the famous siberian snowstorms to the mix, it should get...interesting..of a drive. I would recommend that we instead do the St. Petersburg-Moscow line. it is relativly short, can be covered in 4 hours by a Russian High-speed train, and 8 hours for the sleeping train. someone could create the course, and another person could create the Red Arrow train. then again, you can do commuter trains inside Moscow itself...although the city scenery might overload the computer... Apr-11-01, 06:08 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Transiberian Route" Don't agree.
By the moment I'm thinking about five reasons why not. May be more.First because the philosophy of Train-Simulator must not be as the quick travel philosopy of the Jet aircrafts philosophy.Second, because Train Simulator will be running in a Computer. What this mean? Mean that you can save the "game" at a determinate station, go to sleep, to work, to take your dog for a walk and after retake the train trip forward.Third, because in the TranS-Siberian Route you can find not only trees all around, but a lot of small, big and medium cities all over the route.Fourth, because with the MSTS AI, I think, you can plan a very complitated route events.Fifth, because you can get an Atlas and several other books (may be a Lonely Planet travel guide) and learn a lot.

Apr-22-01, 11:41 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Transiberian Route" Again with the Trans Siberian Route, I have posted a complete high resolution map of the entire route from Moscow to Vladivostok at www.train-magazine.Com for all of you curious about this mithyc train route. I'm working right now in compile all the documentation about it. As soon as MSTS be in my hands I will begin to design this route up.Comments and opinions will be welcome. The best for allPedro Aviles
