Aug-18-01, 05:03 PM (EST) "Adding some people.." Recently I have been working on the Tokyo-Hakone route (very much underrated in my view - the route is jam packed with interest). However, with no people around passing through all the empty stations is somewhat like visiting the Marie Celeste.I haven’t tackled any MSTS scenery yet, but I can recall from my FS scenery designing days that it was possible to add simple items to the MS scenery without playing havoc with the frame rates. These took the form of simple BGLs with one or two dimensional painted shapes (much like the trees in MSTS) using a programme such as Pre-Fab to place them at precise Lat & Longs.I do understand the system in TS is different, but I got to wondering whether there is a way of adding simple static shapes to the existing route scenery files and maybe placing some people, or groups of people, on the platforms. I am encouraged to ask this by reading on the Forum about someone who has been placing extra trees on the Marias Pass route. If someone could give me the lead I would be happy to help where I could.Cheers,Mike Hill

Aug-19-01, 06:53 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Adding some people.." Yes the world of MSTS is a lonely, lonely place but at least we do have all of the motorist. I've also wondered if a crowd of people could be developed as one, single scenery item (they would all be stuck to one "simulated concrete" base, therefore not requiring individual lat/long info for each figure). If I were artistic, and if I knew how to 3D model and if I had a good 3D art program and if I had the time to work on this...I would surely do it Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 09:01 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Adding some people.." Microsoft/Kuju's reply to the question of people is that it would eat up too much memory, and slow down program execution. While this is probably true, I can't help wondering how Roller Coaster Tycoon does it. I have had parks in RCT with as many as 3000 people, each with his own actions, personality, finances, etc. and very little loss of program execution. Granted the RCT people (and the entire game) is very cartoon-like, but even cartoon people are better than no people. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-19-01, 12:23 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Adding some people.." Somebody could\should\must build a fleet of 2D figures then, so long as they are facing the train, that is okay. At 135MPH 3d isn't important.Euston

Aug-19-01, 12:36 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Adding some people.." I've created a set of 32 "2D" people. They look OK as long as you do not put them too near the track. I still need to write some documentation and make some tests, but I might have them available for download by tomorrow.Ron
