Aug-16-01, 10:46 PM (EST) "Adhesion question" Looking through the .eng files I notice a line which is titled "Adheasion" (sic) followed by four numbers. These numbers are usually "0.2 0.4 2 0" but are also modified to "0.32 0.64 2 0" in some of the tweaked .eng files. Does anyone know what these four numbers represent? I'm assuming the first one is a fraction which denotes wheel-on-rail adhesion, but I don't know for sure. And does the second number have to be twice the first one?
I believe adhesion values for locomotives typically range from 20% up to as much as 40% for the modern AC types. These numbers probably have quite a large impact on performance, especially when starting on a grade with a large load, so it would be nice to get them as close to real-world values as possible. I've looked up adhesion values for quite a few different types of locomotive, and I'd like to make sure I'm entering them into the correct place in the .eng file.
Thanks
John
