Aug-16-01, 06:04 PM (EST) "Really tough question on Nvidia GeForce drivers....Help..???" I have just upgrade my Hercules Prophet II GeForce 2 board to the latest Nvidia drivers. It runs MSTS great and cleared up some other problems I had. But...Woe is me...I am also a long time Flight simmer and now, FS 2000 runs for about 3 minutes and then locks. I love my MSTS...but also want my cake and eat it too...I miss my FS2000. I was told that it is the driver and that I need to find the "one" version that runs both...FS2K and MSTS. Egads!
I currently am running ver 12.40.I'm going to the experts here...since I know some of you are also big-time FS'ers. Do any of you know what version of the Nvidia drivers I should use??Many thanks for any help out there...Dave

Look for the Official NVidia 20.80s to be out around Monday........supposed to offer slight improvements for the GF2 series and down. Significant improvements for the GF3s!

This is good information! Just F.Y.I. I am running the PIII with 950 chip and the 64 mg GeForce 3d and a big Hard Drive and I have learned that all this generates a *lot* of heat. I've even smelled the heat from my system...not burning but a very *hot* smell. So...I have installed two more fans...one to bring more fresh air into the box and the other is velcro-ed to the back of the video card over the back of the chip. I know it is hard to believe...but it has helped a lot.One problem...FS2K still locks but will now run for about 20 minutes vs 3-4 minutes. Just thought I'd pass this along to you guys.Looks like I'm gonna have to try some of the other drivers. I am now using the Nvidia 12.4 so will try some of the others recommended that are working for you guys.Again...tough question and you all came through for me.Regards,Dave

If you don't trust me you can read about it here... http://www.tweakersasylum.com/Detonators/Win9x/detonator9x.htmlI have use this driver since it was released with no problem at all, I have also test most of the other drivers, but still this one beat them all ! If your "smelling" the system, and adding a couple of fans have helped, then by all means get your system cooled down. FS2K is running a while longer with the additional fans, but IMO you still have a problem. Flight Sim2K stresses the CPU/System to it's fullest, and heat will be your biggest enemy!D/l a good Temp monitoring prog such as Motherboard Monitor to get a handle on CPU/Ambient/Case temperatures. Hi to Bens Hanger, Zoso and Baz...and allThanks to all for the super responses to my video driver plea for help.Regarding the heat situation: I've also removed the box cover and it is even better..seems to be cool now and no 'heat smell' at all. I will try to find the motherboard monitor to monitor the heat. Where I can find this?Regarding the new drivers. I've tried a couple so far and they all work great...except for FS2K..! I am going to dl several more, especially the 7.52 that seems to work for all programs.To Baz: How can I find time? I'm not retired....yet. Looks like I may be by the end of the year..maybe. I guess I really "work" at finding the time...but it is tough. I spent most of any free time I had with FS...starting 'way back with FS2 many years ago...but when MSTS hit the market..I had to have it...and now I'm addicted. I haven't flown FS2K in about two months and then decided to work it back in. Well..that's when I found out that my new drivers won't run it. The old drivers were not too good with MSTS...which now runs great. So, I'm trying to get 'em both running. Then I'll have a heck of a time...what to do..fly or run my train? Nice problem to have, huh? Oh...My number 1 is my Harley that takes most of my daylight and good weather time! Lucky that I work out of my home..<g>Thanks to everyone.
