RE: 3D Train Stuff : New track textures need testing..

I haven't downloaded the textures yet, but I notice from the screen clip they feature shadowing on one side of the tie. I tried this before, and found that because track sections sometimes need flipped that the shadows alternated directions at those joints. Was quite disconcerting to my eye (at least on my textures).Just something to think about. Otherwise yours look quite nice.JohnCS

Brad,Here's my honest opinion. The rail is a great improvement over the original, but the raised roadbed reminds of that HO Gauge sectional track that came with the rubber roadbed attached from many, many years ago.Bill

Brad,Very good work. Here are some constructive comments for your consideration.I like the look of the ties and tie plates.I think the railhead is just a little bit too bright orange, particularly on the inner edge. Have you tried desaturating it a bit and/or widening the center reflective portion? The use of the very dark line on the edges of the railhead does succeed in making the rail look narrow.I have to agree with the comment about the directional shadow -- it'll flip whenever the track was flipped, but I'm not sure it's all that noticible when you're running along -- I see it tho when I look for it in RE.I think the alpha channel could use a little bit of work -- there's one edge that comes inward to the rail that I think could be trimmed away a bit and while the outer portions vary nicely the very outside edge is as straight as a line and it is very apparent at a distance of 50 or so metres as one looks along the track.I hope you've kept the ballast in a different layer as it would be very nice if to see your final product available with several choices of stone. For instance, I very much like the look of a very light gray; I'm sure others might prefer an even darker cinder appearance. etc, etc. Heck, maybe even C&NW pink! 8-)Dave NelsonWP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 100% complete;

One more observation: at the bottom end of the texture you've got the tie 1 pixel from the texture edge and over on the top there's 11. I suggest you move all of the ties up 5 pixels (to get 6 pixels of stone on each end) because as it is now if you've flipped a track for whatever reason you can wind up with either two ties butt together or a big gap between ties.Dave Nelson
