Seems some people are lucky. I can't even get the route to show up as a selection in the Sim. I have tried for 2 weeks and have given up. I get no error messages and RouteRiter indicates all is fine. I have followed all the post but to no avail. So will have to do without this one I guess.

RE: Conrail Indy

Did you create the folders you were suppose to create? This route does not have all of the folders that a route needs to run on, and per the read me, you are suppose to create folders. Without the folders, you have no route. I don't recall which folders, becasue I have not run this route for a long time, perhaps someone else can help you if you can't find the info in the read me.Chris Bogley

RE: Conrail Indy

Don't give up .... it's a great route!First, there is no readme. At least I never found one. Here's what I did (I'm running XP Pro):1. D/L'd the five zip files into a folder on my C: drive. Be sure you have installed xtracks.zip before going any further. It has a self installer.2. Right clicked on ci20_1.zip and scrolled down to the Extract All...3. Left clicked on it and an extraction wizard came up. I followed it and used the browse button to specify the target location. In my case the path was E:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator4. There is no need to create any folders. ci20_1.zip loads some stuff in the Global folder, creates and loads the ConrailIndy 2 folder in the Routes folder and puts a switch engine in the Train/Trainset folder.5. For the next 4 folders I followed the same process .... pointing to the same path as step 3. using the browse function.6. I learned from Bruce that no installme.bat is needed (in fact you DON'T want to use one). Then I launched MSTS, selected Conrail Indianapolis Line 2.0, picked a consist to explore with and it went through the usual buffer loading and loaded successfully. I then ran it from one end to the other with no problems (other than the great white void near Pemberton which is dealt with in the usual manner: save and relaunch)It's a wonderful route with all kinds of detail, no broken couplers and no other problems for me so far.krswen

RE: Conrail Indy

Now to get really bold, I installed the mirtf.zip activity package for Conrail Indy 2.It installed with no issues. I started running Q-108 and broke a coupler at MP 250, but I was going a little fast. Fortunately I save often, so was able to try again at 30 mph and did OK.The "passing under an overpass" sound "sticks on" forever in the cabview around Indianapolis ... I don't think that was intended. Maybe I'll just find the appropriate .sms and turn it off completely.I expected some AI traffic by the time I passed through South Anderson so I checked with Activity Analysis and there are supposed to be two. However, when I opened the activity in the AE and ran the "player", they never show. Some of the other activities do show AI's in the "play" screen.I'm new at poking into the innermost workings of activities .... what should I look for that I haven't already done to see why the traffic has gone missing?Still liking this route a lot.

RE: Conrail Indy

Well, this is weird .....I studied Rich Garber's step-by-step guide to activity making and started digging into Q-108.I went into the Traffic Pattern frame, selected Q-108 to edit, then in the Select Service frame, selected WB CSX 2 GE Gen Freight Col to edit. The Service Editor wouldn't come up. It said I had a problem with Ctn-C-Hop_e.wag. That's a Canton hopper car not even used in the Conrail Indy activities! However, I have had problems with that wag file before .... even though it looks identical in form to it's sister Ctn-C-Hop_f.wag apparently it has somehow gotten corrupted. So, I remade the offending file from it's sister file. Lo and behold the Service Editor frame now opened. And, when prompted to replace the activity upon closing I said yes. Now when I open the activity I see traffic trains in the main graphic frame!Apparently a seemingly unrelated corrupted file can screw up activities. This sim works in mysterious ways. Now off to rerun the activity and see if the traffic shows up.krswen

RE: Conrail Indy

Well, the traffic shows up but now I can't get through Q108 without breaking a coupler at Union City and can't get through Q111 without breaking a coupler at LaRue. I even slowed down to 15mph and drifted. All couplers set at 5.4e7 for the break value.I didn't have any problem when I explored the route with a light train (1 Dash9, 20 cars) but the heavy trains in the first two activities aren't making it.Anybody else successful?Sigh ....krswen

LAST EDITED ON Dec-07-03 AT 11:06 PM (EST)

I ran Q-108 today with no problems (no broken couplers). I cruised by MP250 at 37mph. Now I have no idea how you got the traffic to show. That feat is beyond my expertise and knowledge.

RE: Conrail Indy

Well, I was mistaken .... some of my cars had break values at 1.1e7. So, a few keystrokes with EngMod and now they are all at 5.5e7. Aren't utilities great! No breaks in the former places. On to the next adventure ..... trying to update the default winter clear environment with Environment Control. When I install mv-winterclear in place of the default environment the sim crashed while loading. Are there some textures missing in Conrail Indy that I need for a different env file?krswen

Do not forget to fix the damping line - the units should be N/m/s. Makes a huge difference also.Kevin Arceneaux
