Aug-15-01, 09:04 AM (EST) "Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" I know many of you are wondering where version 0.7 is. Well I figured I would give you all a little update on what to expect, and about when to expect it.
Lately I have been working on the track south of the 17th/18th street Junction of the South Side and the Midway / Dan Ryan Lines, extending from the existing track over the Midway lines to the Dan Ryan Line, thus extending to Cermak - Chinatown.
Afterwards I began building north from Tower 18 through Wilson on the Northwestern's tracks, then after completing Wilson I began building west on the Ravenswood branch. Last night I was having trouble with a switch and a dynamic track curve. Where after the tracks curve south from Kimball, they meet the track entrance switches, and the one closest to the dynamic track is causing the system to lock up anytime I select it, and rebuilding the track database dosen't help. So I will tackle that problem tonite, and more than likely upload it after I do. Though I will not be creating the yard, because I have to figure out how to rig it to remove the possibility of a continuous circuit, which has been demonstrated to freeze the sim.
To summerize, the next version will include the initial track of the Northwestern Elevated, and the Ravenswood Branch (in it's entirety). Also it will include the trackage leading from the south side elevated to the Dan Ryan line, extending to Cermak - Chinatown. Hopefully I will be able to finish this tonite, and thus upload it tonite. -Chris Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-01 AT 12:53 PM (EST)Chris, are you deleting both the tdb file and also the .bk file associated with it before you run the rebuild track database? I found that the route editor advanced, rebuild function tries to take shortcuts if you don't delete (or move to another directory if you don't trust the $%&#^! thing) these two files. It will "cheat" by copying info from the corrupted .tdb or .bk and not run around the tiles creating a new .tdb file. I've had trouble like that before, and this was the only way to fix it. Would be great to see some CA&E and North Shore traffic also.
Just wondering. Thanks for your hard work on this project. Can't wait to try it out when you're happy with it. We need more Chicago area projects like this.

Aug-15-01, 07:52 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" Too new for the CA&E and North Shore. I had asked for 'L' cars several times, and I could even furnish the specs, but no one seemed intrested. The biccest advantage to 'L' cars would be that they would be 48' instead of the 54' the srs 2000 cars are. I'm thinking about doing an older version of the 'L' depending on my enthusiasim, and the response from the end result of this project.
Also check out the 'L1's mention on Chicago-L.org this week! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 08:53 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" This is from the Chicago-L.org web site. Microsoft Train Simulator Has "L" ModuleThe Microsoft game Train Simulator, which allows players to accurately simulate the operation of train types and systems from around the world, now has a module to allow players to operate on the "L"! The module can be downloaded at Train-sim.com, if you register for the file section and head into the "Route" listings. We have not used it ourselves, but we here it is a representation of operation on a section of the Green Line. We are currently looking into getting some screenshots, Of course, you need the Train Simulator program to run on it, and Apple Macintosh users are out of luck: Microsoft does not produce a Mac version of the program.

Aug-15-01, 08:34 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" I've tried telling people a couple times. The Kiha31 is the right length, and I've done some test skins. (Poor but good for a tester) I just can't get my make ace to work well. Really, all someone would have to do is reskin them and modify their eng file to electric with all the right sounds.

"RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-01 AT 08:39 PM (EST) The KIHA is still 51', and a string of those type cars don't handle the cars (edit: curves, not cars) as well around the curves as the srs2000, that's why I use the srs 2000 in the releases. The cars I would like to see are the 1964 vintage CTA series 2000-2199 cars, in the alpine white and mint green scheme. I love the way those cars look, I had a picture of those as my wallpaper for the longest time. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-16-01, 00:13 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Update 8/15" LAST EDITED ON Aug-16-01 AT 00:14 AM (EST)Yeah, I remember that. The cars were pulled in on the C&NW from wherever they were made, usually close to the engine or the caboose (still used cabooses - Cabeese? - back then) but sometimes in the middle of the freight train. Wierd sight, brand new El cars coupled to boxcars and being pulled in a frieght train. When they were first put in service, my brothers and I would pay the 12 cents kid's fare (I was 11 in 1964) and stand on the platform letting 3 or 4 "old El's" (4000 series) go by and wait for the "new El's. mostly we just rode downtown, around the loop, and back. Dan Ryan line wasn't built yet, Lake St. El used to turn right at lake & wells, go around the outer loop counter-clockwise, first stop randolph & wells, last stop clark & lake, then west again. Got your email, did you get your tdb fixed?

After I deleted the segments I had one of those ghost blue lines, and I rebuilt the database again, and fixed that, I also just uploaded version 0.6a also.
