Aug-14-01, 02:56 PM (EST) "Spotters = Hazard?" This may have been raised before, but how can you call the spotters a hazard, what do they do? They just stand near the track - or do they....Euston

Aug-14-01, 04:59 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Spotters = Hazard?" I'm going to guess that the spotter.haz was under development when the order was given to get the sim out the door. When I adjust the detail of a spotter in the properties, I get an error message; "No extended shape data for spotter.haz". If I knew how to make extended shape data, I'd do it, but I'll bet you need a $3000.00 3Dmax program or something like it to make the spotter visible. Aug-14-01, 10:06 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Spotters = Hazard?" In real life, people who like to watch trains are said to be 'train spotting'. Some train spotters are dumb and like to cross track etc.. They are human beings and when a train runs them over they usually die. Therefore they are considered a hazard that an engineer must avoid, or at least blow his horn.Just yesterday I was train spotting and like 2 minutes after stepping foot on BNSF property, a guy in a security truck drove up to keep an eye on me. In other words, the engineer phoned security and informed them of my presence. BNSF security really are strict. Unlike Union Pacific, they don't like to see you on their property.Hey, maybe that's why the helped make this game; so we would stay home and forget about the real thing!!!KingJPW Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 01:22 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Spotters = Hazard?" LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-01 AT 01:27 AM (EST)Ya maybe. Well today I was out train spotting and got some good shots of an CN SD70/75 and a VIA train running a single f40PH with 4 LRC coaches. I'll post the pics when they are developed. Well to get to the real story. (What the train isn't the real story) I was standing at a grade crossing since had a good view in both directions good enough that I could get to the other side of the tracks if it was approching on the South track. Well I'm standing there a few minutes earlier a CN worker had left heading east towards the yard. Well soon after he left I say a man then about 5 minutes later a woman go behind a singnal relay box. (for both the signals and crossing gates they combinded it for space reasions) So I was like what the hell are they doing, I was like dare I take a picture when they leave and hand it over to police to see if they've got them on file. Well I don't know maybe 15 minutes passed and they still hadn't re-appread. In the distance I could see the shape of the station wagon the CN worker was driving and about the same time the lady came from behind the box and slowly shall we stay stumbled towards me and said "can you help me" I responded right away but she repeated herself so I answered a little louder now having turned off my scanner she asked if I had any money and I turned her away. It had struk me very quickly that she had been doing drugs. Or had not to long ago due to the fimilar signs I've learnt all to well by going to high school and seeing all the people who do drugs. Not to long after the worker came down and chased the guy away after seening the girl leave. He stoped and talked to me and I told him what happened he laughed and said to have a good day and if anyone else comes through call this number. He handed me the CN police number. Make me wounder what they were doing but maybe I don't want to know. lol. Well thank god a train wasn't running though cause that lady sure wouldn't have noticed she was so out of it.Andrew Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 01:45 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Spotters = Hazard?" I always wondered about that myself. Seems to me the whole idea of the deer hazards was kind of silly - put an elephant on the track it would still be a hazard only to the elephant. Maybe they should use an M1 Abrams instead.
