Aug-14-01, 08:23 AM (EST) "Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi everybody.Yesteday I did a very very nice TS book. I printed the entire Marias Pass layout giving me a 200 pages book!!! I used two different zoom level as one farther but close enough to see the siddings and close up views of any siddings or interchange along the route. I'll add much more detail in the coming days, as stations, bridges and other important reference points. I placed the maps in a binder so that gives me a very nice reference book. All pages are an integral continuity of the previous or sussceive one.It was very long to make, but now I'm already satisfied of the result.Andre.

Aug-14-01, 03:39 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-01 AT 03:40 PM (EST)Hi.First, it't not uploadable because it's made from 200 screenshots pictures.Second, I did it with the editor. I moved my pointer carefully along the route and I took a screenshot with Hypersnap DX grabber giving me 200 pictures. After that, using Adobe Photoshop, I convert them in black and white and finally using ACDsee, I printed out on a laser printer.Unfortunately, the editor gave me only 640 x 480 resolution what makes the route jagged. It's sad Microsoft did make it bigger, at least 800 x 600.As now the pictures are taken, I'll add more information on each one giving me all the information needed along the route. You can do this by yourself, it's not hard to do. Just need some patience.Andre. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-14-01, 08:54 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi. Can't you just zip it and upload it? We can unzip it and printout the pictures then, can't we? Thanks, best regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 07:52 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi.Here that's a possibility. As the pictures are quite small (43k), even with 200 pictures, it can make a quite small zip file. But actually I just want add more details on the pictures before doing that.Let me a couple of days.Andre.

Aug-15-01, 06:11 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi.I compressed the pictures and that make a 2.8 MB file. So it's really not as bad as I thought. Today I added more information and I'll continue. It's very long to prepare, but that gives a very useful document and it's very funny to follow your train along the layout. You can exactly manage where you have to reduce speed to take an intersection, where are the changeover track, etc.Do you have a color printer? It doesn't use much ink as it's only thin gray lines with black dots for the switches and a couple of information. Instead of making a 200 pages book, I separated it in two parts. One with the entire layout at a smaller scale, and the other with the closeup pictures of the sidings (and names) separated by yellow sheets. It's easier to consult like that. Both are about 100 pages... Anyway, I'm really proud of my book and make things much easier.Andre. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-15-01, 09:46 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi. Thanks. 2.8M is no problem for me. I have 1.5M DSL. I downloaded Sky Conductor in a few minutes and it was 23M I think. I do have a color printer but B/W would be GREAT also. Either way is excellent. I, and others, will GREATLY appreciate your hard work! If I could have figured out how to do it I would have. The lack of maps is my prime gripe. I am used to Flight Sim 2000 where you can see a map in the game or use NAV before a flight to printout your complete flight plan complete with A/P, VOR, NDB, runways, etc. It's a real shame that MS didn't provide that capability. Thanks and best regards, Bob. Aug-16-01, 07:40 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Entire Marias Pass print out..." Hi.I agree 100% with you about the lack of maps in TS. Like you, I was so contradicted about the fact I can't know in advanced where are the track changeover, the wyes, etc... Now with my document, there is no more problem. I worked on it last night (I work on night shift) and I added many information. I'll continue until entire satisfaction. It's preferable to print this document in color as you can see the signalisation easily compared to B/W. Oh, as soon as you will get the document, you will see many many difference in your layout and mine. I modified alot the Marias Pass as I removed the wye at Glacier Park and I changed it for a loop. I added a loop at Whitefish and Shelby, extended all the wyes along the Marias Pass and moreover, I edited the 72 miles between Glacier Park to Shelby. I placed TOOOOONNNNNNS of trees and details. This section is now my favorite one as I placed so much details that I will modify the rest of the entire Marias Pass. It's too nice and now I hate the rest of the layout. I worked on that section for weeks now.But sadly, the files are much too big for uploading. But you will be able to see my layout modified with my document. But if peoples are interested in my edited layout, I would make arrangement to ship a CD. But now I have to continue my document first until finished.Andre.
