Hello1. If Route Control says there is a missing consist, how do you know what's in the consist so you can make it up in ConBuilder? Or, can I make up any consist and name it the name of what's missing? Searching & reading posts on consists I couldn't come up with an answer, probably because it's right in front of me. 2. I keep getting the message 'Missing SD40-2.eng'. When I look up the engine in the library there are a LOT of them for different roads. I have installed the MSTS updates again, because I thought it might be there, but it's not. I tried downloading and installing several SD40-2 engines, but they didn't work either. Is there a 'standard' engine somewhere that I'm missing?I realize that it might not be quite the thing to ask 2 questions at once, and I apologize if I'm taking advantage. Happy pill, hot chocolate and hot water bottle time.Thank you in advance.Annabelle

Have you done a search of the MSTS directory to see in the consist is in some location other than where it should be. An install may have been misdirected.

RE: Two Route Control questions.

Annabelle,To answer question #2 - I think MSTS is looking for the SD40-2 that is part of the upgrade to v1.2. I would rerun the update to add the SD40-2 and see if that doesn't solve your problem. BTW the MSTS update files have a habit of not installing all the content without running them multiple times. As to question #1, I am no consist whizkid, I suspect you can make up any consist you want name it the missing consist and use that. If you post the name of the missing consist, perhaps someone here on the forums can send it to you.Ken

RE: Two Route Control questions.

If you are using Route-Control lite, it will advise consists are missing if they are referred to in Service files even if the Service file is not called by any activity. If you download Route-Riter and run the 'Check all Activities' option, it will tell you which Consists are missing and give you the option to substitute another one.Mike

RE: Two Route Control questions.

1. The one thing about Route control is that it is case sensitive and MSTS is not when looking at consist file names. This can lead to more than one error that is not really an error. The one advantage is that it is faster to run than Route Riter.2. Reinstall the 1.2 update.I would get Mike's Route Riter, it does the same as Route Control, but it also does quite a bit more. You can use it to substitute consists, substitute equipment in loose consists and regular consists, and package activities. It can also move uneeded consists to a safe place in case you need the later.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Two Route Control questions.

You people are so good at this. Thank you for the help. I hope someday to be able to contribute help instead of asking for it all the time. It seems that once you learn one thing, there are five more things that pop up. By the time I learn some of the things MSTS2 will be released and I'll have to start all over again. Then I guess I'll have to spend even more time on the computer. What a pity. Thanks again.Annabelle

RE: Two Route Control questions.

Sometimes I also found that if I had an activity that has a service that is missing a consist.Sometimes also that if I make a consist...delete an engine in it I forget to also delete the consist I will get the same error.Don't know if that is thr route of your problem (route..get it hee hee) but just FYI if you encounter the same again.Smile!BobFlorida Railfan Page

RE: Two Route Control questions.

Thanks. I am slowly learning to check all folders to find missing things, and I can understand PATHS, I think, but what exactly are SERVICES? AnnabellePS I do like puns, because they assume you have enough knowledge to make them funny.

RE: Two Route Control questions.

Thanks to all of you. Kevarc, too, has done it again, understandable explanation in few words. I do appreciate ALL the answers, and I am getting less fearful of asking what are probably silly questions. But I am LEARNING and I love that. Annabelle

Jak, no disrespect intended. I think that many do not upgrade to the full version, so that is why I mention it.Kevin Arceneaux

>upgrade to the full version, so that is why I mention it. No disrespect taken. I just wanted to point out that this issue doesn't appear in the full version. We've never gotten around to updating the free version since the code base for that one is quite different from the full. Thanks again,
Jak
