Hats Off for Jan Henning Gettkant and the Alco C628! – image 1

I'd just like to thank Jan Henning Gettkant for producing not one, but three of these splendid locomotives for Train Simulator, and in Norfolk & Western livery to boot. I'd been hoping someone would release some N&W stuff, and there out of the blue, he does it. Fantastic. (Now if only someone would produce 611 or 1218 in similar fashion. One can hope...)High noses, long-hood forward, and rare to boot. Thanks much to him and everyone who had a hand in producing them. It is a good day to have the East River District, and a good day for Precision Transportation in Train Simulator.

I downloaded them earlier today, too! Haven't had time to run a set yet, but I remember seeing these bruisers when I was a kid running on the Kansas City District.... These should look right at home on the ATSF Marceline/NW KC District route!!!JBD

Thank you very much! I'm glad you like my engine!
And there is more to come. Right now I'm working on the C-630's riding on tri mount trucks. There are also differences between the old "half moon" logo and the newer deep black units. And even then it's not over because #1135-#1139 rode on Fairbanks Morse Trainmaster trucks!
(to all CNW-fans: No, I haven't forgotten you!)Stay tuned!JanGerman ALCO/MLW - Fan

ah, yes, I downloaded it too, unfortunately my computer crashed I have one question? Have you Jan planning to continue creating only ALCo stuff?
Some days before I tried to build an (ugly beautyful ALCo DH643, some were build for Southern Pacific, but cant finish it soon (I mean, it will be available for MS Train Sim 10.0 or 20.0...) I spending too much time at my work.....
Glad to see people like you here. Too much GEs & EMDs around (no offense against anyone, people).... So, what we need now is cab desingner with freetime.... Jan, thank you for your great ALCo....
Have nice day

Sorry For My Bad Enblish ...... I'm working on it...

Hi JanJust love these ALCOs you've done. Any chance of a low-nose version though? I'd like to have a go at repainting (with your permission of course!) one or two into SCL colours. And if you're doing a low-nose C630 I could do the whole SCL fleet - all 3 of them!! Thanks for sharing your hard work!Cheers

Yep,a red letter day!Seven ALCO Centuries in the library on the same Day.Thanks Jan for your contribution.
For the ALCO fans to make these N&W Hi hood versions more "ALCOish"
use the RSD12.cvf cabview file from MLT if you have that and Gaetan's 630cab.sms and 630eng.sms files (if you have his MLW630 loco) for some ALCO sounds.Very simple to edit the .eng file to add these.

I use the cab from 3D Trains' RS18 in all my high hood alcos. The detail is unsurpassed...and I just got an email that my Bridge Line cd has been shipped!!!!Tim Baldwin

RE: Hats Off for Jan Henning Gettkant and the Alco C628

Hi Tim.
I use the same one in my RS11's and RS18's but I cant get by hitting the 1 and getting a portside cabview then having to do another keystroke to get an ahead view,
Is there a mod that I am missing?

@SCL: I plan to do low nosed versions when high hoods are finished. Will just need some time!@enocell: I work with GMax, and as far as I know I cannot import TSM files with it. But I'm already preparing my own trucks in similar way to the tri mounts. Hope to get things done this weekend.@longislandmike: kwk100 was working on a C-420. I hope he's going to finish it! But perhaps I'll put the high hood on my to do list...By the way, I've uploaded a fix to correct two minor issues. Should be in the file library soon.Jan

Look for a "Reskinners Kit" for Gaetan's great US Alco C630's featuring redone textures using a higher 1024x1024 resolution (from "The Keystone Works")....This will make is very easy for someone with even limited artistic skills to do a very realistic repaint of their favorite roadname!!!...........Coming soon!!! I'll also be releasing them in PRR, PC, and CR liveries.Bill Bzak aka Longhairedwizard"The Keystone Works"

I eagerly await the delivery of those aforementioned units, Longhairedwizard. Thanks a lot! To address Mr. Belanger's CP C630, I can only quote Luke Skywalker from Star Wars when first seeing the Millennium Falcon at Mos Eisley's Docking Bay 94: "What a piece of junk!" That is not an insult. Rather, it is an instantly reflexive response to the skill of the weathering job done on both the external livery and the cabview. Heck, even the prime mover sounds like it's about to give up the ghost. He graciously provided me with the files to this yesterday, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these wrecks ply the rails, alongside other releases. All that remains to have are the CN 424s and the RDG group, and I'll have m'self a great little fleet of Centuries. Thanks to Gaetan Belanger, J.H. Gettkant, Henry Triplett, and the MLT crowd for so skillfully providing me with Alco units. Additional thanks to Nicober for the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia C630s.

RE: Hats Off for Jan Henning Gettkant and the Alco C628

none that i know of, but it's not a problem for me, as i generally use modified outside views while i'm operating (FOV 30, 20, and 40 repectively for the 2, 3, and 4 views) to create the illusion of viewing the scene through different lenses (I'm a long time railfan...)I suppose it would be possible to rename files or edit the .cvf file to use the port side view as the straight ahead view and the current #1 view as the starboard view, but I haven't tried it as yet.I might try 3D Perfection's N&W gp9 cabview in one of the 628s and perhaps one of Dekosoft's cabs in the long hood forward model when I'm feeling ambitious...Tim Baldwin
