Hello all. I have just come back from Eastern Tennessee where there are a LOT of trains. Some run right through people's front yards. Everyone over there was absolutely orange over the University of Tennessee, and it made me wonder if anybody has made any cars of universities. I looked in the library but couldn't find any. Is it something like NASCAR that is licensed? Or maybe someone would start with the University of North Carolina?Annabelle
Hi Miss AnnabelleYou will find plenty of unique railfan oppourtunites throughtout that region of the USA. Some of my favorite railfan locations are in that area and in Kentucky. (See my Kentucky Website)The Paducah and Lousivlle Railroad has painted one locomotive each for a major school in Kentucky. Of course my favorite is the U of K Kentucky Wildcat engine #1978 (The last year of a national champion basketball Team at the time it was painted. The PAL has also painted engines for U of Louisville, Western Kentucky U. and a few other major schools in Kentucky. So not only railroad cars but there are real world locomotives dressed up for some major schools...at least in Kentucky. I do not know if any other railroads have done this...i am sure others may know of some. That is interesting about the engines. I've seen Christmas engines and engines with patriotic themes, but never any from universities. I guess Kentucky fans must outdo Tennessee. I think this means I am coming out of the closet: I really like State best too, but I didn't have nerve to say it in public till now. Anytime I mention State to my family and friends they tell me, "how could you know anything about college sports", so I like it quietly. When I learn to paint cars, the first will be State. Bright red is almost as good as pink.Annabelle
I thought you seemed like a reasonable person, Annabelle. As far as Tennessee vs. Kentucky, I think the fanaticism swings from one to the other as the seasons change from football to basketball. It's pretty easy to repaint something for your own use, if you don't mind that it doesn't look as fantastic as some of the people here are capable of doing. You can start out very simply by using MS Paint - it's hard to get the nice shading and weathering effects, but you can at least make a bright red car and paste on a logo. I (or probably hundreds of others) can post or send the details if you're interested.Andy
Absolutely, thank you. I think several people sent me sites for paint instructions, but I can't find anything. I have masses and masses of printed material and have organized about 2% of it. There seem to be always more routes and more engines and more rolling stock and I want it ALL. And I've still got to find that Coconut God. I am familiar with Photoshop but not MS Paint. Any help would be appreciated. AnnabellePS The boys say they're going to put me in a home where I can play trains all day. Hey, as long as there's a cable INTERNET, Sean Connery, NASCAR racing and college sports................ I have discovered there is a whole new world out there.
