I was wondering why the wipers don't work in MSTS? Is this specific to an engine type or is the screen resolution to blame? I have a raildriver console and thusfar haven't been able to get any wipers to work from the inside or outside cab view. Anyone know what is happening? My apologies if this has been posoted before. Could anyone help? Thanks.M. Hamilton

RE: Wipers don't work in MSTS???

This has indeed been discussed before, but I'll wrap it up for ya anyway . You won't see any moving wipers from inside the cab, simply because Kuju apparently thought none of us would care. As for moving wipers in outside view, they have to be modelled as animated objects on the engine's visual model. If they're only represented as textures on the windows or as unanimated, pressing the wiper key (V) won't have any effect.

MS stated that getting the animation inside the cab was way to complicated and slowed the FPS to a standstill.Kevin Arceneaux

>MS stated that getting the animation inside the cab was way
>to complicated and slowed the FPS to a standstill. I was thinking about this on the weekend. Is this limitation because of Kuju's poor game engine (how EVERYTHING within the draw range is modelled, even if you can't see it) or is it common among all simulator game engines?Question: Has anyone ever played a racing game where wipers were modeled on the in-car view? I can't recall ever seeing it.

RE: Wipers don't work in MSTS???

There is a great model of an SNCF BB66400 Diesel that has a great virtual cab where the wipers work nicely. It uses the F5 key (passenger view) so I guess it wouldn't make everyone happy, but I would like to see this on more models.Interesting trade-off though. Which would you rather have, the passenger view, or another view of the cab?Cheers

Having a passenger view set as a second cab view would mean there is no provision for looking out of a passenger coach, the cuppola of a caboose, or the top of a snowplow. (Snowplows are much nicer to operate if you can sit inside them.)Though I must admit, one of the most interesting passenger views I saw recently was that peeking out of the tail end of a passenger train that had an engine at each end. The view was the cab of the tail locomotive. NIcely done.Cheers,

I'm inclined to agree I reckon. But I wish there wasn't the annoying anomally that when you uncouple, then re-couple, you lose the passenger view!Like many folk I guess, I've played around with the "head-out" view to give an inside cab view instead, but you can often get nasty results with the windows or cab panels.Cheers

>M. Hamilton It is specific to an engine type. One of the first, if not the first model to implement moving wipers was the SF silver war bonnet Dash 9 #666 from 3D Strain Stuff. This was originally released as demoware in the summer of 2001, not long after MSTS was released. There may be other models with operating wipers, but being a steam head, I'm not very familiar with the MSTS diesel roster.
