RE: Soon: a big german traction route: Stadtbahn U79

Hi Roland !I thought Ralf threw in the towel after Version 7 of the WUPPER ?Said at the time that I can't see somebody like him not getting an appetite for more brilliant MSTS Creations ! Looks better than the LINIE-27 !!!Hope that my ISP link is going to be good enough to download from www.the-train.de I am having constant problems with. Even with a small download like the SEAVIEW-4 "Rundfahrt" Activity a couple of days ago. There must be an overload problem with the routes from the U.K. to Germany, or their site is always busy, suffering from inadequate bandwidth perhaps ?Had to ask Ralf to ship me the WUPPER-7 for that reason.Take Care, O t t o.

Otto,
The download section at the train.de is installing a new database. It is supposed to be up & running sometime today or tomorrow.
I've been following the construction of this route with great expectations. It is truly looking good. My Computer specs are in my profile

Otto,I have Wupper 6 downloaded. Regarding Wupper 7, is the download for it an update for 6, or a whole additional route? And what did he add to 7 that's not in 6?My questions are because I can't read German. Thanks.Ted

Ted,the WUPPER-7 supersedes all previous versions and is definitively worth having, being the last of it's kind, making it a "Museums Piece".It features a lot of new stuff, mainly work contributed by Rainer Bluhm, improving on the already brilliant Scenery and it's objects.O t t o

OttoI went to the DE site, and saw where the Wupper 7 was in the download area. It mentioned that there were 4 files to the route, but only showed one to click on in the downlaod area, an EXE one, that should be clicked on last to install the route. Where are the other 3 files? Thanks
T

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-03 AT 04:10 AM (EDT)

Hi,Hear, hear!
That's looking very great! I immediately recognised the first picture! Düsseldorf, the Rhine Bridge with the Tonhalle.
Last weekend I stayed in Düsseldorf for a few days.
But the U79 is not running over this bridge.
Thanks Roland for attending to this beauty. In the second picture, the first bus seems a little bit out of date. It looks like an O305. Well I suppose it is a museum bus.
By the way the tramcars in the first pic are somewhat old by now too. About 30 years.Dick van den HovenPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 11

That's not the least bit unusual for many German tramways or undergrounds . Here in Frankfurt, the oldest U2-type underground cars were built around 1968, and the N-type streetcars, which are the oldest type still operating in regular service, even date back to 1963.

Well that explains a lot. They sure FEEL old. Any word about modernisation or replacement?

That has to be the most detailed route I've ever seen!!! My eyes are popping out, the keyboard is covered in stuff, I'm staring at October 19th on my calendar.................................But we (especially those of us with 'lesser' machines) know the price of that detail......................Koz

Well, the VGF does plan to renew their tram and subway fleet, but since the Hessian government recently announced it would discontinue its financial contribution to any such initiative it might be a while until you might see any new underground cars. However, last week the first two of a total of sixty S-type low-floor trams were delivered. These are based on the DWA/Bombardier 8NGTWZ cars which have been operated by Kassel's transport authority for some time. Here is a photo of unit 202 being unloaded at the Stadtbahnzentralwerkstatt (STZW) in Praunheim: ( http://www. ) tramfoto.de/pix/00-202-Zentralwerkstatt-02-500.jpg
...and one of unit 202 doing a functionality check on the test circuit around the STZW:( http://www. ) tramfoto.de/pix/00-202-Zentralwerkstatt-03-500.jpg
This circuit is not all that big, though, and is intended mostly for performing post-repair checks on cars which had to undergo maintenance work.In any case, the VGF seems to be willing to carry through with the procurement of the S-type, and said it would also remain committed to the goal of holding a bid for a new underground car within the next two years, which would then replace most of the U2 cars as well as part of the fleet of Ptb cars.If you're interested in finding out more about public transportation in Frankfurt, I should like to refer you to http://www.nahverkehr-ffm.de/ .

Hi,By the way, it's not the oldest tramtype in Düsseldorf.
There are still Düwag six and eight axle cars running with a trailer behind. I suppose their age is about 40 years. But the Rheinbahn is well known for their supperb maintaince.Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 13Dick van den HovenPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 14

RE: Soon: a big german traction route: Stadtbahn U79

Dick,
this looks a lot like the N-type tram here in Frankfurt ...and IIRC, they are, in fact, the same basic vehicle. However, our N-type cars had their trailer couplers removed around 1984. The only types still capable of trailer operation are the K, L and M types. However, the K (an old two-axle type dating back to around 1950 or so) is only used for sightseeing trips, but the L (non-articulated four-axle bogie car) can be chartered, and the last remaining M (articulated six-axle bogie car) serves as a driver training vehicle.Dominik Mann Visit www.bahn.de - http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/ - www.eisenbahnforum.deModerator at www.forum.nahverkehr-ffm.de

Sigh, looking at that beauty makes me sad, Dick ! I miss my Vienna Trams. There is a limited come-back of trams in some cities, but Bristol, near where I live, they have been debating the issue for years now and still can't make up their minds !!! O t t o
