If I'm sitting in the cab of my GP38 and an AI Dash9 comes by pulling a train, I get a rather abrupt rail sound initiation as it gets in range. I want to reduce the volume. Which .wav file am I looking for and which .sms calls it in which folder (route? global?)I'm in Whitefish Local 1 activity in Marias 3.1, if that matters. Thanks!krswen

RE: AI rail sound question ....

Don't have your mentioned route so will have to give a general answer. The rail sounds you can hear are the 'internal' track sound region ones. The actual sms playing therefore varies along the route. Look in the routes main folder for ttype.dat which lists the regions and their associated internal and external sms's. By default the internals switch on at 50m distance, but because it's played in the 2D stereo environment the volume level is constant, hence why it starts abrupt. My personal prefference is to disable the internal track sounds and just make the external ones activated in Cab and Passenger views.Stuart

RE: AI rail sound question ....

While on the topic of sound, could someone please tell me how to amplify the "Permission Granted", "Permission Denied" and "OK To proceed" wav files so that they can be heard clearly while in the cabview. With all the noise produced by the engine, it is very difficult for a hearing-impaired person like me to hear sometimes. Is the amplification controlled by the wav file itself or is there something in MSTS that controls it? I didn't want to start a new topic, so I decided to post it here.

RE: AI rail sound question ....

You could click the checkbox that prints text onscreen in relation to audio. This way, you will see "permission granted".Otherwise, the only reliable method would be to get some .wav file editing software and "normalize" the .wav file. This will make it as loud as it can get without clipping. Of course, if you don't have your systems gain structure set up to allow for more headroom, you might hear distortion due to the added amplitude.-Jeff

RE: AI rail sound question ....

Stuart ... if I interpreted your message correctly, it didn't work. Here's what I did:I was in Marias 3.1. motionless when the Dash9 comes by and starts the abrupt sound. So, I went to the MP31 ttype.dat file and identified the internal sound track noise file as "USA1Track0In.sms.I went to that file and moved CabCAm () to the deactivate line.I tried it for the concrete ties .sms file too.Neither one stopped the sound.I don't think what I referred to in my post is a sound region because I was not moving. I assume the Dash 9 carrys some kind of sound with it, but why does it play in my (GP38) cab? I could understand a somewhat muted engine sound, but this is that annoying default track sound.krswen
