FFeditc_unicode can be used to convert a unicode file , such as a .eng file, into an ASCII file. Can FFeditc_unicode or some other utility be used to conver an ASCII file back into a unicode file?Bob
Here's What I use, since I seldom like what Microsoft throws in for free...http://fixedsys.com/context/ You should review the site... It's a nice context highlighing editor if you set it up right...If you just want the down load... http://fixedsys.com/context/ConTEXTsetup.exe I even have it color coding my wag and eng keywords, comments and strings etc, making them easier read to edit.If it reads in an ascii file, it can convert it to a unicode file... If it reads in a unicode file, it leaves it as a unicode file when you save it... Pete Willard

Hi Bob,It is NOT a good idea to convert an eng file. If you have win9x/me edit with WordpadIf you have W2k / XP edit with notepad.Derek
Just a slight clarification... Wordpad/Notpad "2000" are both minimalistic editors. I prefer more features...Context will not screw up UNICODE files either... if a unicode file is opened, it's saved as a unicode file... you don't have to think about it... some other editors are not as nice... EDITPAD, for example will automatically convert unicode to ascii and save as ascii unless you tell it not to each time. Pete Willard
I agree with Pete that both Wordpad and Notepad are very minimal editors. My favorite editor is Kedit which provides you with the capability to write macros to do almost anything. I was only hoping to avoid the work of writing the macro to convert from ASCII back to unicode, but I guess that it is time to dust the cobwebs off my brain and get back to writing code (after two years of retirement).
