Dateline 9-30-03 MSTS: After nearly 3 years of enduring the horrors and bad modeling and unsightly textures the MSTS world was taken by storm with the arrival today of NALW's Dash 9 with Chris Denbow's (TKW) textures. A pack of 20 Dash 9's has MSTS fans cheering in the streets. Fans and diehard train simmers have long been frustrated with their default Dash 9's that were originally released with the sim nearly three years ago. One Simmer commented, “It was like a retarded aunt that you kept in the basement, you couldn't just bring her out in daylight". Another Simmer commented, “I had to trash the whole engine except for the cabview and sounds, it was hideous to look at!" All over the TS World recycling bins were stuffed with carcasses of scrapped Default Dash 9's and fans rejoiced. One simmer said with a smile," Good riddance Default Dash 9 you were as ugly as a mud fence."Pete

RE: Default Dash 9 R.I.P. 2001-2003

Hmm, that default thingy has been gone from my system since the day after Justin released his Dash 9.I had gone so far as completely forgetting what it looked like (YUCK!) until I saw a screenshot of it a couple of months ago.Henry

RE: Default Dash 9 R.I.P. 2001-2003

Like Justin's does this one install into the DASH9 folder so we don't have to change all our activities? If not a 4723 to do just that would be most useful.

Jeff, I apologize for disrespecting your opinion. I really did not mean to be disrespectful; I wasn't being serious and did not mean anything by it.Regards

>For a non-American the default actually looks considerably
>nicer............ If you saw these things all the time, you would agree that the default model looks hideous compared to real life. The shot that Pete posted of my unit is his own weathered version, so, for a better comparison, here is the default and my clean, as-released version:Default Dash 9 R.I.P. 2001-2003 – image 13

RE: Default Dash 9 R.I.P. 2001-2003

I welcome the new power and I think they are great models..However one thing I consider when developing activities is the ease for people to use them.If I do a BNSF activity I do not want to make someone download the huge NALW GE megapack for just one or two engines. Of course it depends what I am doing too. The NALW mega packs are great as you can get a bumch of stuff with one download. So again I always try for the simple downloads. You will find a bit of default sutff used in some of my activites. But of course YOU have the option to swithc the trains out and try them with the non default stuff too.I am about to download the GE add ons and I am sure I will be using them in future releases. However again the default equipment does one thing...allows someone to have a simple operation if they so choose. SMILE!BobFlorida Railfan Page

Just had an idea: What about a new BNSF 4723 using this model? I already did one using Justin Cornell's model and H2 paint scheme, but somehow this loco looks more attractive...Jonathan Nikiforovs.
