RE: Real World Routes

Bored of the fictional routes?Guess you have not tried out the ADFRR yet? That has to be one of the best routes around. Lots of industries if you are into switching, lots of passenger stations and big cities if you are into commuter or long distance passenger trains, and over 300 miles of mainline trackage over mountains, through cities, and across some spectacular bridges. I was not really into passenger stuff before version 2 came out, but things quickly changed after Robert sent it to me on CD. As for real world routes, try NEC4, Whitefish 2.0, Marias 3.1, Conrail Indy, Tehachapi, Cajon, Sandpatch, Bridge Line, Kicking Horse Pass, Glorietta Pass, Raton Pass, East River, and Hamilton Norfolk, and the soon to be released Surfliner.Chris Bogley

...and a little later, Donner Pass (50's period) from 3DTrain Stuff (Winter 2004).

Hi disreali. You do realize that all the routes provided with MSTS are real routes. They are not all that well executed which is why we have MP3.1 and NEC4 which are improved versions of the default routes USA2 and USA1 respectivly. Most of the payware addon routes are real routes as are a majority of the free d/l's.Atually a good fictional route such as Ohio Rail or ADFRR are the best of all worlds because they can - if well designed - have a better play balance between long haul, local, switching and passenger operations. Also fictional routes have usualy got a good equipment sets that are easy to install like Ohio Rail."that are complete?"I hope by compltete you don't mean the entire railroad. Modeling BNSF, CSX, UP, or NS would be imposible - way too large. Even an entire division of a prototype RR is a daunting task but there are several prhects that size available.Be Seeing you.

>Winter 2004!!! Is that a typo or do we really have to wait a
>year before it comes out? Here in the northern hemisphere winter generally lasts from December through to February inclusive, although living in Britain you'd think it was September through to July! So Winter 2004 I reckon means some time early next year.As for realistic routes, try Pat Dalton's Skipton route which is a masterly reworking of the default Settle-Carlisle based in the 1920s and modelled with supreme skill. Also in a few weeks look out for a complete route... The Severn Valley Railway. This route will set the benchmark for realism and route building skill as well as including lots of finely crafted rolling stock.

RE: Real World Routes

There are many real routes available. Some of my favorites are from Europe - Albula, Wupper Express, and LGV Med. Real US routes which I enjoy include N&JC, Lehigh Valley and Seattle. Another realistic fictional route is Priest River - Hoodoo pass.I am not bored with MSTS as there are so many good routes available.I hope this helps.

RE: Real World Routes

Check out the Chippewa Valley Rail Road. It is a real line in northern Wisconsin. Some of it of abandoned track, other parts are in use today. Do a search CVRR and you will find the files in the library.
Use some of the great C&NW rolling engines that are in the library too.C&NW = (cheap and nothing wasted).. it did when I worked there. Thanks for taking a look!Glenn

Most of, if not all, these routes and their associated files can be downloaded from the train-sim.com file library. The link to it is www.train-sim.com/login.htm Once there, select 'Routes' from the pull-down menu, and search away. That should get you where you want to be. If not, let us know.
