Aug-10-01, 10:19 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" Read my thread abou bugs, bugs, bugs. I made all that stuff on my computer, AMD Athlon 800, 384mb ram, tested it on my youngest son's computer, AMD K6-2 450 with 128 mb ram, worked fine on both. Then after uploading went to my brother's house and it wouldn't install on his son's computer, which is identical to my son's (my brother and I built a dozen of those a few years back for all the kids, when k62 chips were really getting cheap) except that I had upgraded my son to 128mb ram, and my nephew's was still 64 mb. I think that's the problem, but not having another stivk of pc-66 ram to put in it, there was no way to check at the time. Read bugs bugs bugs on how we fixed it, and whenever you guys write you should let me know your system specs. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Can you please modify your bat install files to allow proper install?Otherwise, the conversation from those not affiliated with this thread now will hound you forever...and miss your good work!Eric

Aug-11-01, 00:44 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" Just copy the texture and shape files from europe2 into the port ogden route and it'll work fine.Sweet route by the way. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-11-01, 01:27 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Iv'e been doing some research and troublesooting, and I deleted the copy in my routes directory, unzipped the file I uploaded, and ran the install - no problems EXCEPT when I tried out the season setting for autumn just to check, and got all the missing autumn texture errors. I traced the other problem down to either slower machines or machines with less ram, and the problem is the lesser system is dropping a bunch of copy commands. A quick fix for this might be to cut the batch file up and run it in segments to get the slower systems a chance to catch their breath, and the primary problem is JAPAN1. I would suggest copying and cutting the reference to japan1 out of the batch file, open up another wordpad and paste japan1 into that, and save it as japan.bat, file type unicode text file. then run the install, with the japan1 section cut out of it, and when it's finished run the new japan.bat you just created. I know to you guys who haven't played with the route editor that doesn't make much sense, but all the missing files are in japan1 as well as europe2. I left europe2 out deliberately because I only used two terrain textures out of europe 2, and those are addressed individually in the install. I'd love to start working on a patch for slower systems (at least I ASSUME we're talking about slower systems, nobody so far has told me) but ... I was gonna say "unfortunately", but I guess for me it's not unfortunate - anyway, I don't have a system that it DOESN"T work on to test it. Anybody with a 700mhz 256mb or better having problems with the install? What specs you guys got? And BTW, I believe I did say those ancient DOS batch files are public domain, so anybody else who wants to try to fix it feel free. Better still, one of you windows 98 experts come up with a foolproof windows install for downloaded routes & trains, so we don't have to screw around with ancient DOS commands.
My specs:
ASUS A7-V Motherboard, jumper free
AMD Thunderbird (Athlon) 800MHZ
384 MB PC133 SDRAM
Windows98SE 4 A , Build 2222
DirectX Version 4.08.00.0400
Video 3D Blaster Annihilator 2 64MB AGP

Aug-16-01, 09:24 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" I got the same problems that this guy had. As long as i kept telling it to continue, I could wade through all the errors and get into the map. Then they would come up every couple of minutes or so. I have an AMD 1.2ghz on an ASUS A7V with 384MB of RAM. I don't think it's a problem with memory. I think that something is wrong during the installation and some files don't get copied. But I'm no programmer. I'll try copying those files from europe1 that the other guy suggested and see if it helps any. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-16-01, 11:19 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" Version 2 is now in the library, and someone reported it worked fine, so scrap the version 1 and download version 2. For a long winded explanation of what went wrong, check out the port ogden & northern update in the route developer's section. The short version is, i had a defective disk and a bad install of the game files myself, so I had it set up to copy files from directories that wouldn't exist on a good installation of MSTS.
Keep me updated on how you do with #2, cuz I'm working on 3 right now. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-16-01, 11:41 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Jim Ward a question about Port Ogden" Hi Jim. V2 works GREAT! Thanks a lot from all of us! I like the Stevens Point area. I did notice some white to the left of the tunnel after you turn East 90 degrees at Johnsburg to make the Mountain Division loop. I'm not complaining at all, just thought I'd point it out in case you didn't notice it.The route is superb. Ran the lumber activity. My only problem is that the consist is too large to make the cut easily at the Coal Mine. You have to do a lot of switching. That's OK with me because I can practice my switching activities. Keep up the GREAT work. Thanks and best regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
