The 'Notches' near the top of the Taieri gorge in Otago New Zealand was always going to prove a challenge to model and due to the constraints of the terrain mesh took some doing.
This particular section of the gorge crosses 5 viaducts and runs through two tunnels all within 2 miles of track. The bridges cross a series of deep cuts in the solid rock.
I have posted a series of shots of the build through some of the stages.
The rocks are models by Ron Spalding somewhat enlarged and retextured. If you catch this post Ron, I tried to e-mail you to ensure you are happy with me hacking your boulders but it bounced. Hope you approve?
I have yet to change the track textures from the default and this will stay in place until the final tidying up of the route. I find the default textures easier to work with when fine tuning dynamic track, alot of which is used on the route in an attempt to keep as close as possible to NZ 3' 6" gauge turns. This is an early stage with terraforming (TSTools) and track inplace with some early rock placement to check for bridge gaps.

RE: NZRoute2, Taieri Gorge section.

Hi Derek
Long way to go yet.
I estimate about another two months.
I will certainly let you know when it is finished but I doubt I'll be able to upload as it will be around 250megs even with routeriter.
Should be available here on disc however.
Cheers

RE: NZRoute2, Taieri Gorge section.

That is presumably before compressing. It should go down a lot when zipped and there are many with DSL connection or better who would go for it.Bill

RE: NZRoute2, Taieri Gorge section.

Hi Bill
The route sits at 640megs on my puter as is. I still have a lot of files to add as I progress although quite a few already there are unused and probably will remain that way. Routeriter will take care of the purge and yes, should compress down from my estimation of 250megs.
The problem will then be my steam driven 64kb connection. It took me several days to upload my original route which was only about 85megs so that option is out.
Bill Burnett did offer to upload from disc to the US site so may take him up on that when ready.
Cheers
