Aug-08-01, 02:15 PM (EST) "MS Train Features" Hi,I don't have MSTrain yet, because it is an expensive game that may not fulfill all my requirements that I'm expecting. Since MS didn't release any demo only a few "worked" photos... so the decision to take it is even harder and soon we'll have more choices beside this one. Please could someone tell me if MS Train SIM does or provide de following:1. (Based on MS photos), does the train (locomotive) have any movement on the rails? or have only a static image moving on the rails?2. Does this SIM provide some trains traffic or looks like MSFS2000 that requires FSTraffic in order to have other planes flying? So Does MSTS have more than one train on the rail in the same scenery (and running... not static)?3. Could be possible to change the cargo cars while you are on the train, or it is a predefined option that you have to chose before starting the action?4. Based on the point. Could be possible to change "cars" in the stations.5. Weather. MSTS works like MSFS2000, gets the current weather from internet?6. It's possible to have a free run... not to be stuck into an adventure or route; like stopping in all stations... so on?7. Does MSTS have any option only to manage the tracks, assigning trains?8. Does MSTS provides a kind of missions for example getting some cargo from x train stations? Thanks in advance for you reply

Aug-08-01, 07:26 PM (EST) 2. "RE: MS Train Features" G'day Miguel,I do understand your situation, as I'm now retired on low income myself, and every cent counts.
If your remotely interested in trains or train working at all. All I can say is "GO... for it Miguel".
I have been with FltSim since early days of v3 - till - FS2k and with MSTS, despite a few bugs (but doesn't trash the sim though) but must also be expected, this Sim is very well done for a first try.
If you are a TRAIN person at heart I do not think you will be disapponted if you shell out and get it.
But also realise this is only version 1.0
So bite the bullet, GET and GROW with the sim, as we all had to do with each version of FlightSim.
If you sit back hesitating, you will NEVER, never really know.If your not a train person at heart then give it a miss.
For if your looking at Train Sim as a sort of game, or as something different, you will bore of it after time.
So save your pennies (cash) then for something else more interesting.I'm a retired railwayman of over 30 years and I think Train Sim is very good.
Okay not exactly like the real "Hands on" but never the less, still very good for anyone with TRAINS at heart.
Every question you asked above probably will come later on as like in FltSim, it has to grow, so as I said if interested:... "Get TrainSim and Grow with it".Hope this helped.

Aug-09-01, 09:56 AM (EST) 4. "RE: MS Train Features" Hi,Thanks for your replies, I've now a better picture about MSTrain. It covers almost all my doubts.Currently I'm a MSFS2000 fan with more than 3.6Gb of add-ons installed. Now it appear that I have to buy a new disk before buy MSTS.Since my childhood that I've collected and built several train "tracks tables" for my Marklin Trains class HO. I hope that MS continue the evolution of MSTS correcting eventual bugs (Because MSFS2000 still have many bugs... and now MS are going to release a new version... I wonder if it comes with the same bugs and also with a better price)Again, thanksRegards,

Aug-09-01, 08:16 PM (EST) 5. "RE: MS Train Features" G’day Miguel,> Since my childhood that I've collected and built several train "tracks tables" for my Marklin Trains class HO.There you go, you are a Train man at heart. When I was a younger fella, I started with a Triang HO model railway (railroad) track, but then when of age, graduated to the “REAL” steam and diesel trains. Now as the years have passed, now retired at 60, I’m back to playing trains again on a computer, and enjoying it. Time certainly changes things. Get yourself a 30gig hard drive, (not badly priced now) bigger if you can afford it.
--------------------------------------------------------
Below is ONLY as a matter of interest for you…….. Maybe worth considering.
Myself I use three (3) pull-out REMOVABLE hard drive CRADLES with old Win98 installed on each one.Hard Drive (1) 4.5gig has all my Applications, etc on only. This separates my Applications (spreadsheets, wife’s Genealogy etc) from FS and TS. Play no other games at all.Hard Drive (2) A 15gig for Flight Sims only which has FS98 (because my countries scenery) and Fs2000. Still plenty of room for FS2002 later on.Hard Drive (3) A 20gig for MS Train Sim itself, already nearly 2½gigs in size. Should be plenty of room to put next version of TS on as well, cross that bridge when we come to it.ONLY drawback with this set-up is you have to shut down, change over the drives and restart.
To me its all worth the messing around, as I do not have everything trashed IF there are Glitches.
If drive gets too small, then copy FS or TS over to a bigger drive later on. Piece of cake. But if you only want the one drive, then get the biggest you can afford. Realize as each version of FS or TS comes out they just get bigger and bigger, then there is all the ADD-ons as well.
----------------------------------------
I note your very concerned about bugs, but bugs WILL come with every version. Fact of PC life.
Since being involved with Computers this last 10 years since old DOS days, I am yet to see a reasonable sized program that is absolutely BUG free. They do just DO NOT exist from what I have experienced, seen and heard. So EXPECT there WILL be bugs, hopefully not major ones, but patches do come out later.
With all the FltSim versions they have had BUGS, (scratch, scratch, getting itchy) sorry mate, but do not worry about it. Only worry when everyone goes to install it and it totally trashes the system. Then we try to sue the mob who made it. Hell what a b....... joke hey!
As long as programs are written, there WILL be bugs and glitches. Sorry Miguel, it is a fact of life with PC programs. Hopefully they will be only small bugs, as when they bite us they do not hurt us too much, or suck too much blood out, opps I mean suck our much hard earnt cash out. Best Regards, and much happy Train Simming.
John.

Aug-13-01, 02:43 PM (EST) 7. "RE: MS Train Features" Hum!Doe a roll of reported bugs on this forum... I don't think so!I rather wait for MSFT version 2002 or 2003... because MS are going to release new versions, one per month (near soon)... like they are doing with MSFS... beside, £49.99 is far expensive for a game. ;-DI've already played it for few hours, lucks good. But suffer from some lake of reality... Ok it's a simulator!...you may say... but in the first baby step.I'm going to wait! Meanwhile I going to have fun with the real simulator trains... checkhttp://www.rhdr.demon.co.uk/rhdr.htmlRegards,
