Aug-07-01, 05:27 PM (EST) "My Activity unpacker worked fine!!!" I downloaded my first activity -- ACELA NIGHTOWL. I did as directed -- placed the APK file in the Util directory and dragged and dropped the file onto TSUNPACK.EXE . It worked perfectly!! Now , I see a large thread in this forum where it doesn't seem to work for some people. I am using Windows ME. I also saw where it seems to work "sometimes" for some people and not at other times . What's going on? -- maybe there is something wrong in the APK files themselves? The only question I have now is this-- when the TSUNPACK was unpacking the activity , it asked me if I wanted to overwrite 2 files. I said NO at first , then went back and unpacked again and said YES . Why does a new activity need to overwrite default files??Barry Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-07-01, 08:23 PM (EST) 1. "File overwrites" Ah, the file overwrite debate again!!It is possible to write activities with no file overwrites, however it takes some discipline. It's sometimes easy just to use default paths and consists. As long as they aren't edited by the activity designer, overwriting default paths and consists will cause no harm. I just finished an activity where I believe I hit the "Use as Template" button for everything. It's going out to my testers tonight or tomorrow and I will soon find out if I did it right. If the designer hit the "edit" button while working with a default consist or path and made any changes, there is a potential for a problem in running some default (in-game) activities. If that happens, the solution is easy if you have MSTS Buddy, a little more difficult if you don't. Any error message on consists or paths when you try to run an activity can be fixed in the activity editor. Just make a note of the problem consist or path name, go to the editor, open the problem activity, and edit the offending consist or path. You may have to search a little through the consists listed under Traffic Pattern, but with some perserverance and help from the Sybex book, if you have it, anyone can fix an activity problem.Bottom line for me, after downloading several dozen activities and saying yes to all file overwrites, only one problem, with a non-default engine due to an incomplete readme file. My take is that the file overwrite debate is much ado about nothing. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
