Hi Folks,Been using MSTS for a while now and really enjoy it. Have just gotten into looking for more activities, locos, cars, etc and have been perusing the file library here. I really like the old 'car body' diesels and have found a couple to download. Yesterday, I downloaded the ONR1515 loco and created/saved a consist. When I load it, I get two error messages:...\GP38\SOUND\GP38Eng2.sms
...\GP38\SOUND\GP38Cab2.smsare not found. The scenario will still load but I have no cab view and no sounds. I made copies of the GP38Eng.sms and GP38Cam.sms and added the 2 to the file names. No more error messages but still no cab view. I do, however get sounds.Kind of a newbie here so don't know all the ins and outs of all the various files. Have searched the file library for the above files.Any help is appreciated. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get deeper into created my own activities, etc. Great fun!Best,Mike

RE: Newbie ? Missing files?

Hee-hee, learning the old lesson that freeware ain't always perfect, hey? All these files are editable in wordpad, the .eng file looks for two .sms files for sounds and one .cvf file for the cabview. Amatuer hackers like me sometimes fail to test thoroughly using a default installation that we know for sure everyone else has, so when we upload something it don't work as advertised. After we get bombarded with a zillion error reports from our "customers" a few times, we usually learn to test with a default MSTS installation, following the instructions in our own readme.txt to make sure we didn't screw that up.From the readme:"1) Unzip the entire contents in a folder named ONR1515 under the \Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset directory."That's wrong already, the \ONR1515 folder is already stored in the zip, so if you follow those instructions you end up with
\Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset\ONR1515\ONR1515, and that don't work at all."There isn't any need to copy over the CABVIEW and SOUND directories from the GP38 - they have already been aliased in this model."What he doesn't mention is that the .eng file uses 3DTrains_FUnit01.cvf by default, which is aliased to "..\\..\\3DTrains_FPack\\Cabview\\", and therefore presumes you have that installed. The .eng file also aliases to the default GP38 sound folder but with gp38eng2.sms and gp38cab2.sms, which are also not default files. Getting the 3Dtrains Fpack would probably cure the cabview problem, I don't know where he got "gp382" from tho.He did, however, include an alternate .cvf file which he didn't mention, and altho it's not pretty in an F7 it works, uses the default GP38 cabview. Easiest fix I can think of is to replace the .eng file, try this one;http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3f07127c68092a73.zipIf you later download and install an actual F7 cabview, you can follow the instructions for aliasing that, usually by opening the .eng file in wordpad, do an edit, find for "cvf", and change it for the new cabview filename.
