How ome when some routes are installed, they use the Sky Conductor skies automatically without adding them. A example is the N&JC did this. Soon as I installed it, the skies were working with it. And the person who did the CN Blackfoot Sub had it set up to use the skies also. How is this done. I've been trying for a long time to add the skies to Marias3.1, hamilton Norfolk, and one more but Icannot do it. And also it is difficult to change skies. When I double click the icon a java box appears for a second, then it leaves
So therefore i cannot chang the skies. What am I doing wrong?

RE: Routes & Sky Conductor2

MSTS Mystery; Why do some add on routes come with Sky Conductor already installed? This is turning into an FAQ lately. If I create a new route from the geo extractor, and don't hack anything manually, I get the default set of environment files from \Train Simulator\Template\Envfiles. Let's say I named my new route "NewRoute", in the \Train Simulator\Routes\NewRoute folder is a file named NewRoute.trk. This is the file that defines what other files are used by this route, including the .env files. If you open the NewRoute.trk file with wordpad, about halfway down is the environment. Default add-on (from template) uses sun.env, rain.env, and snow.env, Europe1 & 2 use UKsun.env, UKrain.env, and UKsnow.env. Japan 1&2 and USA1 & 2 each have their own unique named .env files. If I add my NewRoute to Sky Conductor, what Sky Conductor does is replace \NewRoute\Envfiles\Sun.env etc., with its own set of .env files. Those .env files, instead of calling for sun.ace, daysky.ace, etc., the set of .env files in the route are now calling for HITWsun.ace, HITWdaysky.ace, etc. So now without an uninstall of Sky Conductor or some manual hacking, the route will no longer work (Failed to initialize train world) without the HITW ace files in the \NewRoute\Envfiles\Textures folder. So the route developer uploads the whole thing including the Sky Conductor files. As for why you can't add MP3.1 to Sky Conductor, I don't know, I don't currently have MP3.1 or the latest Sky Conductor, maybe Bob can answer that one.I forget which one it is, I think it's Whitefish, if you follow the author's instructions to copy the folders from USA2, it doesn't work, you get Train World initialization Failed. That's because the whitefish.trk file is calling for the generic name sun.env, rain.env, or snow.env, and unless you copy the \Envfiles folder from \Templates they're not there, what is in there is USA2sun.env etc., and since the filenames don't match what it's looking for it don't work.

RE: Routes & Sky Conductor2

LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-03 AT 04:26 PM (EDT)

You know, rereading your first post, window pops open and shuts again when you try to change skies, it sounds to me like your Java install got corrupted or something. Can you add any new route to Sky Conductor that doesn't already have Sky installed?http://www.howintheworld.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=skycondgen&action=display&num=1002749128According to Jak, uninstalling Sky Conductor and then going into the control panel add-remove programs to uninstall Java, then reinstalling the latest Sky Conductor oughtta do the trick. Again, once a route is "added" to Sky Conductor, the Sky envfiles are installed into that route. If Sky Conductor and/or the Java interpreter for Sky Conductor gets corrupted or deleted, the route will still display whatever set of Sky Conductor Envfiles were active the last time they were changed, you just won't be able to change them again. That's why it gets confusing, I'm seeing Sky Conductor skies in all the routes I added it to, but Sky Conductor itself is no longer working. That's because all the files necessary to run that set of skies is self contained in each route's \Envfiles folder, it's just that the program to add the Sky envfiles to new routes or change envfiles in the old routes no longer works.

RE: Routes & Sky Conductor2

I have a feeling that the routes which do not work with Sky Conductor are all using the USA2 set, which is already defined in Sky Conductor. One possible way would be to redo the env files with Route Riter, and then try Sky Conductor.mervyn@madasafish.com

RE: Routes & Sky Conductor2

If you make a route and use route riter sky files Sky conductor will not work due to the difference in file names.
