A recent upload to the Sim Library has a set of Dutch Rwy whistle sounds by RGG v.d. Weil. How would one go about making and adding or changing the MSTS default-sterile voiced announcement "You May Proceed" into the standerd German Station depaerture call: "Bitte Einsteigen und tur geschlossen, die zug is fur die abfahrt....."At least it would play extremely nice on a number of the foreign routes, the Pro Train series, the Semmering & Arlbergbahn, Unterland, Albula 2.1 and Wupper Express.Any help appreciated, mainly if I had somebody to tape one of these announcements at a major DB station, this I think would be half the battle of creating the WAV file???Thanks Doug
YoU would have to find the .wav file you want to change. Then you would have to record the announcment you want, then you have to convert it to a usable .wav file, then you can make the substitution. WAV files are not all that easy to work with, plus they can impact game performance. Way back when - we had a wav file of a halftrack in Steel Panthers, which used to wipe out the sound completely - until somebody reworked it to be not as highly modulated as the original. The sound would get "bubbly", then hissy, then the game went silent, though the sound would come back if you exited the scenario, exited the game, rebooted your system and started the scenario where you had left off. Don't underestimate the ability of Windows to allow files to hang around when in reality they are no longer needed. Creating and managing sound files is a tricky undertaking, expect to get it wrong a lot when you start. Good sound editing software is not cheap, either, though you have a rudimentary sound editing module with Windows - or we used to have one, I should say, because I haven't looked in WinXP. If you really want to get into it, ask for a guy named Bernie on the Steel Panthers forum - don't tell him I sent you, he will probably swear at you. Bing
Doug, You're good at German? Have a look at this site;http://www.the-train.deFind and click on the word English next to the flag (to the left) for the English version of the site. Click on Download Area (on the top) and then click "Tools" (on the left) Now search for "sounds" On page 8 there's a file called 'Verbesserte Abfahrtansage' That's the .Wav file you're looking for. Hope it works.Edit: Bear in mind that if you operate on an 'English spoken' route the departure will be German spoken though!
That's the best solution; I didn't know those kind of wav files were available. We were used to making out own for Steel Panthers. Face it, you don't come by a wav file of a King Tiger engine and track sounds real easy, they are hard to come by. Bing
Dear Rich:Thanks for the info, helps a great deal, exactly what I need.Much better than hearing "You may Proceed" while sitting at St. Anton. It's sort of like not having catenary on the St Anton Line, the Lone Ranger without a mask...etc.I think I may have solved the language barrier also...... I have a forum tutorial from Nels Anderson on creating "separate" Train Sim files so I can segregate out routes/consists/activities (sort of a crude but effective pre-Train-Store version), so this should keep the English WAV files and German WAV files separated. Thanks Doug
