Hi!
I was just running one of your activities on the TP2 route. There is one small bug, I observed. At Caliente, the speedlimits seem not to match what is displayed on the track monitor. So, originating in the Bakersfield area heading towards Mojave: I get into Caliente at a speedlimit of 25 mph, dropping to 15 mph in the horseshoe, then increasing to 23 all the up to Summit Switch. This is how the track monitor shows it.In the upper portion of the track monitor, the speedlimits however do differ a bit. I observed, that the speedlimit increases to 25 mph again still being in the horseshoe and staying there for quite a while even after having passed the sign for 23 mph.I was doing part 2 of the SP tank train activity.Apart from that great route!!!!! I already have two great ideas for activities to make. One might be to represent a helper engine set helping another train up the grade and then return to Bena. The other an excursion train arriving in Bakersfield, there cut in a diesel for support and then continue up TP...Regards,Sebastian

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

In reality, the 3DTS speed limits do NOT match the real ones. The line is 50 to Caliente, then drops to 30, then to 23MPH all the way to the Cable Crossovers. I believe there is, in reality, a 15 MPH restriction while negotiating the horseshoe in/around Caliente (as in the 3DTS route), but it does not show in the source I'm looking at right now. But, to change what the Track Monitor shows, you'd have to go into the Route Editor. Might be better to just leave it alone.....than to deal with the Route Editor.Knowing there's that much 23 MPH running, I've been turning the TM off except to check oncoming signals now and then.

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

I don't know whether they are real or not. The thing is, that the route monitor shows one thing on the track chart in the lower part and another thing in the upper part, where it says speedlimit, actual speed, projected speed. So you're in the 15 mph restriction in the horseshoe curve, and before you pass the 23 mph mark, in the track monitor, the speedlimit changes back to 25 and then later to 23...That's what I observed...

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

Actaully Steve, the speed limits ARE correct. I have the timetable from BNSF / UP, and I believe that is also the sourse Brad used, not to mention a few engineers who know the pass, passing on key info like that.....The speed limits is 25 from the start of the Ilmon narrows, and then drops to 15 through the curve, and then 23 mph all the way to Cable.Other than the glitch with the TM, 3DTS did in fact nail this route perfectly.Chris Bogley

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

I had a feeling the 15 MPH really did exist...as I mentioned, the source Ihad didn't show it (Altamont Press California Region Timetable 13) -- but I know I've seen 15 signs around Caliente on my stops there. (Last one was a couple weekends ago, it was non-stop activity on the line...)I figure the Track Monitor showing 25 when it should be 23 is no problem at all.....The 3DTS route is superb, and anyone that has ever been to the Tehachapi pass can attest to its authenticity.

Hi guys,Thanks for the kind words on the route Regarding the speed limit..the 15 mph looks like its set in between the the 25 and 23, and since they are all in a very short distance, the sim is confused aka the track monitor not showing the 23 untill you are further up the canyon..anyhow thats my guess, maybe John Greenstone will see this and shed some more light on this Keep'em on the high iron!

Shoskins: The speed limits are indeed mostly correct, except in places where due to simulator limitations I had to take a bit of "license" with it. And it's not 50mph to Caliente, it's 25 just past Ilmon, but the data you have may be calling the entire piece of multiple-mainline between Ilmon and Caliente "Caliente", in which case your statement would be correct. Sorry, no 30mph though. The data I used was dated 1998 from the yellow & gray RR, and is the same today AKAIK. One thing I did do wrong is at the Caliente curve, there is no 15mph limit going railroad-east (toward Mojave), that was my mistake. The 15 is actually only for downhill trains because I guess in the past they had a problem with heavier freights rolling over the rails on the curve downhill.Sstyrnol: I just looked in the editor, and there's nothing wrong with how they're set up, so if it's squawking 25 even though it's 23, then it's probably something else in the game goofing up. Enjoy your free 2mph. The route used to be 25 back in the old days, so 25 is perfectly safe. I wouldn't consider this a problem. A problem is when the route crashes, or funny green people start crawling out of your monitor, that's a problem. All Y'all: The route's pretty close (97.64% accurate), but if you want real-life you'll have to go talk to UP about a job. There are a couple spots in real life where one track has a higher speed limit than the other, but sometimes the sim won't allow me to do that, so I have to cheat. And get this, EB at Cable, the righthand track actually goes to 60mph, in the curvy area! But of course, if I do that in the sim, the AI trains won't time properly. Thanks for the kind words and compliments on the route everybody, we're all glad to see it is being enjoyed. John G the 3DTS Route GuyP.S. I'm surprised the rivet-counters haven't dinged me for the curve in the town of Tehachapi yet, or the missing numberboards on the signals west of Caliente... LOL

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

Hey,
I didn't want to nitpick or something, I found it just quite strange, that two parts of the route editor were showing two different speedlimits! So...

RE: Attn: 3DTS re TP2

I was going to bust your chops about missing 3 of the 4 tunnels after Cable heading west, but Brad got to me first and told me that it was a grid issue. I remember 3 of them being in the beta, but like I said, he called me and told me about the grid issue there. I guess after the dogging I gave him about the developers edition, he expected more????Haha, I get a good laugh out of it though. When you know the route in question, you pick up on anything that is left out for the most part.Great job guys!Chris Bogley
