Hey guys!
I just read another thread concerning Kevarc's activities and other stuff...I just have a small request. Will you (you all...) please keep this MSTS-stuff as that, what it is?! It is a hobby, a thing to have fun. Sure, some of you are enthusiasts (maybe even fanatics). But I guess, most of us have one thing in common: That is trains. So I don't see, why we have to argue so much, when we could discuss interesting things the same time.I was quite shocked by that thread because it was so harsh. I can understand Kevarc. If I were bothered by stupid questions all the time, I would write one-liners too... Some questions are just too dumb and therefore not worth my time (or his time). But I guess, things would be much easier, if we would tolerate some properties of the users here. If there's a bugger stirring things up, let im alone and cool down... There's more things to do.There's too much anger out there, so let's enjoy trains, okay? And don't bite yourselves too much into the stuff!!!Just my €0,02 worth...Cheers Sebastian

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

Its no big deal! I am no lover of activities that either don't work, or only work with a lot of addons. Kevin likes to get people off their backsides, and find loads of extra files. While I have them myself, I just think that activities should come with the trains required included. I have just finished reading "A short History of Nearly Everything", by Bill Bryson, which will give you a good insight of arguments in almost every sphere of human philosophy and science. And that backs up your message to a T!David

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

And if we discuss activities... I guess, if you made an activity with say 20 pieces of rolling stock... I already see people with 56k modems complain about the download size.Well, go ahead and make activities with that crappy KUJU Dash9, because you can't guarantee, evybody has Cajon or Sandpatch or whatever for some nice rolling stock...That variety is just too big.

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

Here is my two cents worth....All of us are unique, all of us see the world in our our unique way. All of us enjoy train-simming in our own unique way. When I create an activity, I like to tell a story, give a bit of history and feel on the railroad operations at a certain time and place. To some, this is boring. They want an activity with danger lurking around every corner. This is fun, but hardly (mostly) prototypical. Every rock band has its own style of music, every activity creator has his (hers) own style of activity. I've learned to truly enjoy this hobby by not criticizing and truly seeing the merits of each person's creation. My two cents worth,Steve

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

I don't mean this regarding activities... I mean it in a general p.o.v.! I observed it in other situations too. Some here see this kind of hobby that SERIOUS, that they are in a bad mood, in case somebody makes a joke or something...I just would like some to be more relaxed...

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

YES!
I meant that for all of life too!! Activity creation was just an example. When we cannot accept those who are different than our selves, then WE are the problem. When we accept the diversity, we can truly enjoy others' creations. Steve

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

As for the activities in question, I guess I don't really see why it has to become the issue it was of previous threads. Seems simple that if someone offers an activity that you're interested in, get the required downloads and try it. If you enjoyed it/liked it: Great. If not, then maybe it wasn't your cup of tea, but it may be someone elses. Stay civil about your preferences. If the activity sounds like something you're interested in, but you want the activity author to change things to your liking: Sorry bud... you're poop outa' luck. Case in point from a personal perspective: "Bottleneck On Tehacapi" sounds like fun... BUT... I don't want to download the 50+ meg GEMegaPack right now. So, for now, I'll pass. "Someday" perhaps I'll bite the bullet and do the downloads with my dial-up... but not THIS day. However, I'm not going to try to convince the creator of the activity to accomodate my preferences for less downloads... "so make me an activity that uses stuff on MY hard drive". Not realistic and quite self centered, actually. Further, I won't trash him because he won't make them "my way".Most activity writers create what they enjoy. In a sense, it's their form of expression in this hobby. If you happen to hook up with an activity creator whose interests happen to mirror yours: So much the better. As for the personal clashes that seem to follow such threads, cut each other some slack, and you may find each of us aren't as bad as we thought. DTA's got some good qualities, I'm sure... just look past the clash of personalities.Ditto Kevin. Perhaps he's a bit rough around the edges, but willing enough to help when the need is real. I've seen that over and over.If there IS someone on this forum that you just don't like for whatever reasons, whether imagined, petty, or actual... fine. Keep it to yourself, thank you.Cutting each other some slack and getting on with the topic of choice, MSTS, will make for less hand wringing and angered/hurt feelings. Surely that would be a good thing for this forum.Just some thoughts...Andre Ming

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

I totally agree and want to add something to think about: This is a written medium. That means we have to put our thoughts and feelings and opinions into words and express them.We have to express them in a mannered, clear and exact way. Always remember: It is okay to put your feelings into a message. But the reader won't see you face. A probable sarcastic sentence might be anticipated totally different, cause he doesn't see you grin. Also sentences might become stronger than they are meant. In a narrated discussion, you always can weaken a too strong argument by immediately correcting it. But here: What is written stands there and is visible for everyone. People have time to think about it and to get aroused about it.So if you write something, always think before it, think whether it might hurt somebody. And yes, it does hurt people, if you downgrade their work, because they are proud about it. Most of it is work out of love. So if you don't like it, keep it to yourself, if you can't discuss why you don't like it in a mannered way.A German philosopher called Kant once said: "Choose your actions in a way, that they always could be the basis for the legislation of a state." That means, treat other people like you want to be treated yourself. If you don't want people to mock about your locos, don't mock about their activities. With these to cents, it makes €0.04...Sebastian

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

Some people here the only thing they add is complaints. To those who complain I have this suggustion. Keep your thoughts to yourself and show through example how it is to be done. For example DTA has complained about Kevins activities. Fine. Now show us by uplaoding activities that require no dloads, and then you can explain to rest of us how it is done. Until then you are just a pain.

RE: Keep smiling!!!!!!!

There is one way to solve it all: You don't like the activities, don't play them. You can always try to create them yourself. Think it's easy? Try it. Bing
