Hi!
I just read the newest newsletter by www.facingpoint.com and saw the new screenies! They look great! One remark: I realised, that they already have signals on their route. From what I read here, I know, that you put signals as the very last. Does that mean, that the surfliner route is nearing completion?Anyways, head over to www.facingpoint.com and see the new screenshots! They are amazing!Cheers, Sebastian

>Not always, it depends on your school of thought. Some people put the signals in as they go, and others do it last. I tend to do it as I go and have never had any problems, the only thing I do 1st is the track, the rest I do as I go.

RE: Surfliner page updated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trains look incredible but the scenery looks very sparse with drab colors. Does not seem very appealing to want to drive the route.

And always remember, the product is far from being complete, isn't it?! I guess, there's still a lot of work to be done!

RE: Surfliner page updated!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is true, if it was all complete it would be released. From the published photos, the tracks and trains alone will make it the most detailed and best looking route ever released, bar none.

RE: Surfliner page updated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also imagine the huge amount of work of completing a route that goes out of LAX or San D.! These are big cities.I wonder, if they will find a good solution on how to build a credible city. You either overload the scene IMO or it looks too bare. It need a bit of deepness. However, as I see it, the countryside will be perfect, especially the seaside parts of it.Now add to that a smell-generator, that mixes a blend of hot air, sand, seasalt, dry bush, ..., diesel-oil, creosote.....

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-03 AT 09:47 AM (EDT)

Obviously, you haven't ever been to southern California. The region is DESERT, even though it is right next to the ocean. The colors in the screenshots DO reflect very closely how everything else looks here. It's BROWN most of the time....Go east out of San Diego, and it's all ROCKS. (Check out the excellent San Diego & Arizona route that has been in the File Library...looks just as real as the real thing!!)The funny thing is, comments about the "lack of color" etc. -- about ten years ago I was marketing videotapes I made in the cab of an Amtrak train from Los Angeles to San Diego, and some of the customers who bought the copies of the tape said the same thing. But they were folks who had never been out here and seen how "drab" it really does look. It's either dirt, sand, dust or concrete.....

RE: Surfliner page updated!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in San Diego, too, and since I have family in Los Angeles, I go up and down the I-5 corridor fairly regularly. Shoskins is right...we live in a desert. The screen shots are bang on. The Facingpoint website used to have a screen shot next to a real photo of the same location and it was amazing to see the accuracy and detail.Having ridden the Coastliner from Union Station to San Diego, I'm REALLY looking forward to this route!Kurt

Even without captions, I know exactly where on the line each one of them is supposed to depict.I wonder if they're gonna put the detector into the route -- that is right behind my house...MP 177.4 (My wife calls it the "No Defects Lady" 'cause that's all it ever says....)
