After considerable test-running here, I have decided to go ahead and release the first public beta test version of the route to Train-Sim.com. The route is currently being processed by RouteRiter and should be ready for upload sometime tonight.IMPORTANT (in other words, READ THIS, darn it....)There are several REQUIREMENTS for using/installing this route. Without meeting these requirements the route WILL NOT RUN!* XTracks is required for this route
* Global tsection.dat, any version June 1, 2003, or later
* All six (6) default routes must be installed in M$TS
* Activities included require NON-DEFAULT equipment (Santa Fe Super Chief set is one!) to be installed prior to useCAVEAT EMPTOR (let the buyer beware):* No guarantee is made to the safety of installing this route to your computer.
* This is a PUBLIC BETA TEST VERSION. No signals, no scenery. Tracks, roads, and terrain only! Sidings and platforms ARE named, however, and those electing to download and try out this route are welcome to create their own activities however you are asked to NOT post those activities for open use until the route is at v1.0 status. So, there it is, folks! Enjoy!!!!OH! PLEASE....Send bug reports to me through this same forum posting!JBD

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

Ran into the MS Q811493 problem tonight! It took RR NINE HOURS to compress and generate the zip files then crashed! Checked for this system-dragger update, and lo and behold it WAS in my machine! For further information, go to www.komando.com (Kim Komando Show website) and search for 811493. You do NOT need this Win Update UNLESS you are running a network server. It IS a system killer! On the second run of RR (starting zips from scratch) the entire run took less than FIVE MINUTES. Files are uploading tonight!!!JBD

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

While I can't get into the files section currently, it appears that the route is starting to be posted. There are FIVE (5) zip files for the route named ATSFMAR1.ZIP, ATSFMAR2.ZIP, etc., etc.You MUST read the "ReadMeFirst.txt" file which will be in the root directory of the route (trainsimulator/routes/atsfmar)!Quick install instructions are:1) Unzip the five zip files into the Train Simulator ROUTES directory and VERIFY that the route directory is next in the directory tree of ROUTES. If it is anywhere else, move the entire ATSFMAR directory into the ROUTES directory.2) Click START then RUN then BROWSE until you get into the ROUTES directory and select "INSTALLME.BAT". Click OK to run the installation batch file. NOTE: The route will NOT run without this being done! You MUST have ALL SIX DEFAULT M$TS ROUTES INSTALLED along with Xtrack (v3.5 or later) and Global Tsection.dat (in your GLOBAL folder) build of May 10, 2003, or later. Copy ALL of the files in the GLOBAL/SHAPES folder into the route's SHAPES folder.3) You SHOULD now be ready to roll!Enjoy!

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

KNOWN ISSUES (as of 6/23/03)* Route will not display in M$TS start-up list. FIX: Use Activity Editor and create a route path. Beta Release 0.2 will correct this issue. In addition, some scenery, buildings, and signal bridges are being added (no working signals yet, though!). Kansas City Terminal trackage has been extended west well beyond Sheffield Tower (Tower 8) as a result of several requests. Future releases will extend the terminal division west to Santa Fe Junction and the east approaches to Argentine Yard. I do not plan to pursue building the yard, however.JBD

"I do not plan to pursue building the yard, however."Hehe, good idea. That's one big yard! Anyone ever see that Pentrex DVD (VHS) called "Goin' to Kansas City"? That's the yard they arrive at at the end. One of my favorite railroading DVDs.

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

Argentine is the largest yard on the BNSF system and IIRC either the second or third largest in the country.Glad to know someone is interested in the Kansas Division. I work on all three subs (Arkansas City, Douglass, and Emporia) Pentrex shows in Goin to KC and worked with both Kevin and Wayne before. Overall, its a great video although if they would have done it during late spring/early summer, they could really show the beauty of the Flint Hills when the grass is green and the cattle are all over the place. They also skipped many places on the cabride that are really beautiful anytime during the year. BTW, I'm located at Emporia where they setout those autoracks at.Austin

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

It's a great video. I bought it when it first came out on DVD which means I can freeze-frame an image I want to work with on my second monitor while I set terrain/scenery/etc.! I'm not quite to that point but the DVD is going to be a great resource for working with this route to "get it right"....Since I building ca. 1980, I have to go back to my own photo collection, track charts, and the system timetables of the time as further verification. When it's all said and done I hope to have the AI trains in all the activities running according to the timetable, such as one can with freight operations. I CAN, however, schedule Amtrak trains quite easily since their times are clearly listed in the timetable.JBD

BTW: See the latest thread on the beta version for KNOWN ISSUES....You'll need to re-create the paths using Activity Editor....I blew it and forgot to do this after I changed some trackage....Patch will be included in beta 0.2 which will be released in a couple of daze...JBD

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

So does this mean you are gonna work on the Kansas side next? I've done some designing of the line west of Emporia to about Chelsea siding but put it aside because of limited time and my big fix on recreating the Milwaukee Road. All though it is designed to the BNSF year 2000 profiles, only a few things have changed in the 20 year difference (the yard here at Emporia would probably be the largest difference along with a few industries here and there). BTW, they are going to put in a intermodel ramp here on the old eastbound yard ground to relieve some of the operations on the Argentine Ramp. The name is supposed to be Sunflower Two in relation to Sunflower One at Argentine. My, how times have changed.Austin

RE: Santa Fe Marceline Sub released to public beta!

Nope, absolutely not. I'm just going to stop at the east mains from Argentine. No interest in working west of KC....JBD

Oh, ok. I thought when you mentioned using the Goin to KC DVD for reference material you were designing here on the Kansas side. It ends at Argentine BTW, why would you need it for the trackage east of there? Will look forward to the update, I'll give a copy of the beta to a friend of mine who is a hogger on the Marceline Sub sometime when I see him. He is really looking forward to running it. Now I'm just trying to get him hooked on this website!Austin

Do you suppose that your hogger buddy would be willing to carry a video camera on the head-end sometime??? Video of the route would help with the detailing...JBD
