RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

I had sent this as a private email also, but since your soliciting public feedback here I'll repeat.I noticed that in the SD70 night cabview that the alerter button was overlooked when creating the night ace texture files. This makes the alerter button standout very visibly. On the mainline heading south out of Bakersfield I did notice a few places where the ground texture is overlapping the tracks. I can post coordinates if your interested. You guys did a great job on this route, I really like the extra details that you added especially some of the unexpected sounds.

Only one tiny question before I buy it. Does the uncoupling issue exist in this verison?

When I was building the route, I only had one area where the uncoupling issue existed, at Sandcut. However, I placed two extra switches on the mainline, and the problem has disappeared. In all the testing I've done on the route, I've not had any trouble.John Greenstone

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Got mine today, the route looks great.I didn't have any uncoupling problem at Sandcut when I did a quick scan of the route. Started at Bealville with a couple Dash 9's and just let 'em roll. They get up to 112 MPH, and stay on the tracks and the train stayed coupled. (I am NOT kidding!!)Eastbound, gave 'em full throttle and they hold 40 MPH up the hill using the two D9 and 24 mixed default consist from MSTS, and everything looks great that way too.Oh, and my wife, who isn't a total railfan or computer geek (like me) says that it looks real going east out of Bealville looking over towards Tunnel 5, and around the loop too! (She's been up there with me plenty of times....)

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Brad,Received mine on Friday morning, had the thing loaded up...and then had to go eat.But then spent the rest of the afternoon on the "Engineer Check Ride" activity (forgive me but the proper name escapes me). If this activity is any indication of what is to come when I run the other activities...I am in deep trouble (big smiles here at this point). The route is FANTASTIC. I did notice one or two very very minor ground problems, where it looks like there was a small landslide onto the tracks, but they were extremely small. I have only been to Tehachapi twice (and my wife only once) but when I showed her the route, even she was highly impressed (she even picked out the "Benny's" where she remembers us having dinner one night). Although I haven't completed the Engineer Check Ride yet (on the downhill side of the pass, just passing the Cement plant) what I have seen is excellent.

Hi guys,Glad you are enjoying the route..Regarding the ground thing, since some of the mainline is on cliffs or runs through deep vertical cuts it does indeed seem like that in a couple of places, however, I have found that by playing around with the "terrain error" settings in the "display options" it will let the sim draw the terrain more accurate, and get rid of that. And yea, the BNSF Engineer Training activity is pretty cool, John Greenstone shows his sense of humor in that one Keep'em on the high iron!Best regards,

All orders go by surface mail....first class here in the states. I don't recall you Aussies having to wait 9 weeks for Cajon pass, more like 3 weeks at the most, and actually, when you think about it, Austrailia is just a flight away from LA, so you could actaully get it sooner than someone on the east coast where it has to travel by truck...........Chris Bogley

My last order for video gear from Texas took 9 weeks, according to the USPS postmark on the package when it finally strolled in the door.

>the east coast where it has to travel by truck...........

I suppose it depends on whether USPS's version of surface mail is truck/ship/truck or truck/plane/truck (I believe we have an intermediate level here in Aus {SAL} which is surface within countries, air between).Just trying to get a feel for when I should start to salivate at the thought of its impending arrival .RegardsYuri.

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Nobody's mentioned it yet...so is my copy the only one that is missing cabview and soudn files for the Santa Fe FP45 #90?I went into the .ENG file for this unit, and there are NO references to either cabview or sound -- yet the unit is listed as lead dog for one of the activities.Maybe it was meant to be ONLY an AI?

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Yes Steve...it is for AI only, and it does mention that on the 3DTS website, though I am not sure about anywhere else. I used it as the 2nd unit to go up the mountain, and I don't even think it is a powered unit. No smoke, and as you have found, no sounds either. Still, it looked great behind the ATSF SD 75, and it made getting up the hill that much more fun with a "offline" unit.Chris Bogley

I just checked my activity list and cannot find the FP45 listed as the prime mover in any of them. Which activity do you have that the rest of us don't?

The FP45 in this route is an AI locomotive and has no cabview. You can't run it unless you alias a cabview to it. NALW has an excellent F45/FP45 cabview in the File Lobrary.

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

My mistake, not in an actual ACTIVITY...but it comes up as a lead unit in the locomotive list when going for the "Explore Route" option.Usually AI's don't do that....

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Got my copy just the other day and tried to run my first activity. The activity is the one where you are dispatched to rescue a SP train below you on the pass. Everything seemed to go ok until I returned to pick up my consist after the rescuing the other train. I attempted to couple up to my consist and was not able to. The engin got within 1 foot of the lead car and would not couple up to it. The consist is a string of BN empty coal cars. I have notice this same car in other activities use in AI traffic and have noticed that the cars are very far apart and appear not to be coupled. I have sent in an e-mail on this problem and hope to hear soon about a solution.

bw,Sounds like a file in your 3DTS_BNCOAL folder is corrupt, I'd try an uninstall, and then try re-installing the route, which will also replace all the files in that folder for you and should solve the problem.Best regards,

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

I will try what you have suggested. However, before I do un-install and re-install, should I remove the folder that has the BN Coal car in it? I believe this car also existed in the Cajon Pass route and may have been corrupted before I installed Tehachapi. I did notice that a the installation program skipped loading files if the file existed already.Thank You,

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

I live in Madison, WI and received my copy in Monday's mail. I've run my Daylight from Mojave to Cable X-over; the route is excellent, and the scenery alone makes a huge improvement over Tehachapi DE.One question. I also have 3DTS Cajon route. On my runs on Tehachapi yesterday, I was getting about half of the frame rates (17 to 30)that I get on Cajon (21-57)(same computer, etc). Is that to be expected?John DeLamater

RE: 3DTrainStuff: Tehachapi Pass Route II now shipping!

Hi John,Yep, TPII is a bit heavier on the eye-candy than Cajon, especially in Bakersfield. Edison also hits pretty hard. That's probably where you'll get the lowest frame-rates. But if you're getting 17 to 30fps, I'd say you are doing just fine. I designed the route to try and keep it at about 12 or more FPS on a mid-range Athlon processor.John G

Best damn $1500 I ever spent. Yep, I spent over $1500 to get a new system to run MSTS the way it should be and Tehachapi Pass Route II is just spectacular. Have not run any activities but here are some screen shots from the route. The scenery is just fantastic..

Why is it that all of the tunnels, save one, force you up over the hill when in view 2? Only fault I have seen so far. Tunnel 3 is the only one that does not exhibit this fault.
