Aug-05-01, 06:12 PM (EST) "Public statement" My uploading of the rgsd40 files apparently resulted in my stepping on Wurgers work. My sole intention was to take Wurgers unidentified excisting file and make it better. I think the objective was reached. I only wish to make train sim better for everyone.Let me state that even though I thought it was clearly stated as modifications I do not claim the entire engine file as mine. I only claim the obvious modifications/differce in the settings which are many and when all added up improved the performance of the engine. The gyralight code is mine. The included rgsd40.sd files bounding box modification is mine also. You can check these things out for yourselves if you have a desire to.There was no ill will intended. So again let me make another apology to you Wurger. It won't happen again. In the mean time I will refrain from posting and uploading anymore fixes and or updates until I get educated in copywrite and plagerism laws.Stay tuned Chuck Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Even if there is a technical basis for a legal cause of action, there are no damages, since Wurger's files were free, and as a sometime lawyer, I know of no attorney who would go to the expense of suing you unless there were some damages to pay his fees.Your statement is noted and a good gesture. I think the community should remember that even if you make changes in someone else's freeware files, that person needs appropriate credit in your readme.Looking forward to more uploads of improved files from anyone interested in contributing.

A programe that as I see it has many flaw's and that each and everyone of us that has some computer savy should help those that aren't.(like me) I may know the Hardware end of fixing these thing's but when it come's to the writing of a program I'm as lost as if I were in a Hot LZ. lQQking at that Golden Bee Bee heading for it's target.. now I know I'm gonna hear some crapola from this ... but .... ya know ... it's not werth the heart attack over a Modifacation in files.

Aug-17-01, 08:43 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Public statement" I think you are missing an exceedingly important point here. All the legal arguements aside, if designers and artists and technical gurus don't get credit for the many hours of work they put in to this, they will simply get tired and go away. Many excellent people in the flight simulator community have disappeared because they got tired of spending 50-60 hours on a project, just to have someone paste in a new description line and call it their work. It takes very little time to credit the efforts of those you are "borrowing" from and it may even give more substance to your work to realize you have researched the knowledge of others. Bottom line, it isn't a matter of right and wrong, it is whether you want to keep talented people involved and supporting the sim. If they go away, how long will it take Mr. Gates to generate 150 different locomotives in 50 different liveries on just 20,000 miles of routes. For your own good, keep these guys happy!!

Aug-17-01, 05:22 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Public statement" GezThis thing is two weeks old. The offending files were fixed, credit was given, apology was given and I learned my lesson as a first time uploader. Leave it buried in the basement were it belongs.Chuck Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
