I currently run dual 17" screens on my computer for graphic work, and I was wondering if there is anyway to get MSTS to run on both of them. Ideally I would like to have one screen as the cabview and the other as outside camera. Is it at all possible? Could it be supported in MSTS 2?

RE: Multi-screen support for MSTS

This is something I too am waiting for. With the release of FS2004 around the corner, followed by MSTS-2 and Graphics Cards being capable of TV output, I am planning to use a PLASMA TV as the main display monitor for the Sims and two 17-19" flat panel monitors for side cockpit views or others with FS2004 and side cabviews or #2 and #3 outside views with MSTS.That's if both support such Multi-Screens displays. I know that FS does, not sure about the new MSTS-2 ?O t t o

This could prove to be an interesting thread.Question, Is it possible to have both a cabview(1) open and an outside view(2),(3), or (4) at the same time on a single monitor sytem? If not, how would you get them both open even on a dual monitor setup.I think it's possible to maybe have the RE open on one monitor and be running trainsim on the second. But not multiple windows of train sim open at the same time. It would be nice if I'm wrong.
I think it would also be possible to have RE open on one screen and move all the other items (placement, object, camera, etc to the other. or RE on one monitor and the RGE on the other at the same time. MSTS doesn't let both screens open at the same time, or does it? or will MSTS2 allow that? That's the only way I see this idea working.Just thinking out loud, stirring the pot( thought processes).
I just recently read an article in a PC Mag on dual momitor setups.
I'll have to see if I can find it again and check if it says anything on the matter.

RE: Multi-screen support for MSTS

No, I don't think it is possible in single-screen mode. The setup is not as sophisticated as FS, where you can open multiple windows for various views and instruments. I am running a P4 2Ghz 512Mb ram, and a GF4 64mb grafix that just happens to have two VGA outputs. I have seen a 3-output 128mb grafix card, with marketing aimed at 3 screen FS.What is strange is when I in dual-screen mode, MSTS crashes on opening, whereas FS just defaults to single screen mode. I just think that Multi-Screen MSTS would really be something amazing. Although I could imagine with dual-screen you would have to reckon with halving single-screen frame rates.

RE: Multi-screen support for MSTS

MSTS Multi-Screens ability will no doubt come eventually as it did with FS, if MSTS-2 has not got it already ?In the meantime I am using another trick. Having more than 1 computer, I am running a ROUTE on my WIN-XP machine and at the same time got the same Route open in my WIN-98SE's RE or ACTIVITY EDITOR. In the case of the latter to check on it's monitor display where on the Route I am ! At the moment this is done with a mechanical T-Switch, letting me use one keyboard and monitor with 4 computers. More Monitors will be purchased after I have seen the new FS2004 and MSTS-2.O t t o

RE: Multi-screen support for MSTS

I've tried running the MSTS on a dual monitor configured computer, and have had no success. I'd like to put the data displays like next station, speed limits, etc on another monitor so as not to clutter up the main view. Apparently the programmers did not foresee this, as an attempt to move these parts to the second monitor doesn't work. The selected device simply disappears from the screen.I certainly hope they tink of this in the next version, it is a shame to have all those aids available, but the use of which only clutters the screen and mars the realism.

It just irritates the Hell out of me that such features as multiple monitors, etc, are not supported by much of the software out there. I originally tried to set it up when the concept first came out, and came to grief. When I got the ATI Radeon display card, I kinda just hooked up two cards and two monitors, and it just kinda worked. It is so handy to have another monitor with reference work, changing data, email windows, whatever, while keeping the main screen for the work at hand. I don't know just how difficult it would be for the program designers to allow pushing some of the helper screens off the main screen, but I guess if you don't ask, do are assured of not getting.
